Are there any accredited home study midwife courses in Canada?

I feel in my soul that this is the path I should take, but have kids at home that need me.

I really don't want to be away all day at a traditional school. Do any of you know of a home study program I can take that will allow me to work in Ontario, New Brunswick or Nova Scotia?

Thanks for any help and guidance.

the only way I've heard of it is through a university (I think?) in Utah - was it Frontier, or something like that? You still have to go somewhere to do the clinical part and since clinicals are at a premium in Canada, that means going to somewhere like Maternidad La Luz, etc (and then you still have to do the IMPP at Ryerson in Toronto because you won't get ON registration or have homebirth hours, etc). I have heard of people doing it. . . . not sure what their success rate was though.

The other option is to do all/most of the pre-req/non-clinical courses now while the kids are little through an on-line university - perhaps Athabasca offers some? and then get into the actual program once you're ready to do the clinicals. . .

g'luck!

Not that I know of, but Ryerson does have a part time option.

I believe you could do AAMI from Canada.
You should just call Carla Hartley and ask her. She's a great lady with a challenging, thorough course.

IMPP, is a midwifery accreditation program at Ryerson University. It's for midwives who were "internationally" trained. It takes about a year and is a combination of classwork and clinical. Here's a link that goes further into requirements for the IMPP.

I don't know about NB and NS? Maybe look at the Canadian Association of Midwives homepage for more info.
Best of luck.
