Joint b-day gift for a 3 and 6 year old

We are invited to a good friends joint birthday party this weekend. The party is for a boy turning 6 and a girl turning 3.

I would like to do a gift they can both enjoy, and need it to be budget friendly. I wold be happy to make something, but it can't involve sewing, since I can barely thread a needle

They have a gazillion toys, and are moving (locally) in a month so I doubt mom wants something that is a pain to pack up.

Help!

Just off of the top of my head -

What about a photo/memory album that they could share? You could even take additional pictures at the party to be put in once they are developed.

Or, if you know where they'll be moving, maybe get online and buy gift certificates to the local museum or something else actvity oriented.

I don't know how far they're moving -- but if it's to a different state, maybe buy a kid's book about the new state/city.

They are moving about 3 miles away, to a larger home.

Personally, I would not give a joint gift. My husband suffered through this as a child along with joing birthday parties. It always made him feel like an afterthought.

You can get a pair of walkie-talkies quite cheaply.

I would also caution against a joint gift. They usually result in hurt feelings.

The exception would be if you can do an *experience* Tickets to a children's play, or museum, or a membership to the zoo etc.

How about dress up clothes or accessories.(hats, glasses, goggles, wands, crowns, capes gowns etc) You could wrap up something for her and something for him. Each child gets a gift to open and you can be pretty sure they will play with them together. Second hand stores are good spots to comb for this sort of thing.

I agree

How about getting them each an appropriate book? That shouldn't cost too much and will be easy to pack.

A basket of art supplies? A game or puzzle? Cool bubble wands and a big jug of bubble solution? A children's cookbook and kid-sized aprons?

What about a game?

Ooooh, good idea! They each get their own, but they play with them together! An easel was my first thought, but that may be hard to move. I think the dress up stuff would be good too. A game sounds good in theory, but I'm not coming up with one that both a 3 and 6 year old would like right off the top of my head.
