I need some degreasing help

Tomorrow I have to do some major degreasing in the house that we're moving into. The oven and stove are completely covered in a sticky, sap-like grease, and there is grease splattered all over the walls as well.

Tonight I'll be going over there to coat the inside of the oven in Karen Logan's Sleep it Off Oven Cleaner (from Clean House, Clean Planet; the cleaner will be salt, baking soda, and water, and tomorrow will come off with some soap, water, and elbow grease). I'm just not sure what to do about the stove, exterior of the oven, and the walls. I'm thinking of putting the stove burners in the oven and cleaning them along with everything else, but as for everything else, I have no idea. I'm disappointed that Logan doesn't really touch on degreasing in her book!

I just found the answer to my question in another thread that I had going, sort of related to this one. For reference, here's the post:

I use diluted dish soap (cuts the grease), let it soak, scrub with baking soda, then use vinegar to clean it off. I clean houses for a living and I run across this a lot. Hope that helps!

I had a stove so bad my MIL offered to buy me a new one! I should have taken her up on it!

We use this for all our cleaning needs, and it is especially good on grease when you use the concentrate. It dilutes to clean just about anything, too, so it's multi-purpose!

We can find it at our local stores. Good luck!

This is basically what we ended up doing for the stove grates. We actually soaked them in a Sal Suds/water mixture for two days, then I scrubbed and scrubbed, and ended up taking most of the grease off the tops and sides with a razorblade (nothing else was working!). They've been sitting in a baking soda and salt mixture since Friday afternoon, so it'll be interesting to see how they are today!

For the walls, we also used the diluted Sal Suds. I am now completely sold on this product! It definitely took some scrubbing (I'm using a vinyl sponge), but it took the grease off! It was great, because none of the other ladies helping me could figure out how it was going to come off, and they really didn't have a lot of initial faith in my "natural stuff". Now they all want to know where they can find their own bottle of Sal Suds!
