GD Test - Blood drawn 15-20 mins early, not sure if ate right amount of JB's.

Ok, so I couldn't find the JB's I was told I needed to eat after searching for two days. So, I looked at the serving size of the Brachs compared to that of the Jelly Belly (only ones I could find). I was supposed to eat 18 Brach's, with a serving being 14 (and equals 27 grams sugar), so I figured I was eating 1 1/3 servings of beans.

I looked at the Jelly Belly ones. A serving is 35 beans (and equals 28 grams sugar). So I ate 50 beans. I finished eating them at 9:30 this morning, went to the lab and signed in. She called my name and I said I had already taken the stuff at home. She just brought me right back w/o inquiring about what time my blood needed to be drawn, and took it. The lab person was a bit clueless, and had no clue what was going on.

My Orders were a fasting test (nothing after midnight), then eat the beans and have my blood drawn EXACTLY 1 hour after eating the last bean.

Are either of these going to give inaccurate test results on the GTT?

Well, I think that regardless of what kind or how many jelly beans you had, there the test it self is notoriously inaccurate. :

85% of women who "fail" this screen will go onto pass the oral glucose tolerance test. (and 70% of women who fail THAT test will pass it if retested another time).

I know this isn't what you are asking, so forgive me. I just think it is SO important to get the truth out there about the oral glucose screen and tolerance test.

I think that as long as you ate the amount of grams of sugar that was specified (often it is 50gm for the screen), then it will come out "accurate". The one study I am familiar with stated that 28 jelly beans was just as good as the 50gm glucola drink.

I guess I am more worried about the blood being drawn 15-20 minutes too early.....and the effect that will have on the test results.

The lady in the lab was really lost when she looked at my lab sheet and really had no clue what she was doing. They say to arrive around 10-15 minutes prior to the time they should draw your blood, so they can get you in on time if they are busy....and they were swamped when I got there with about 4-5 other moms in the waiting area who I don't think had even ben talked to yet.

The lab order was changed from the 1 hour test to a fasting plasma test with the notation that I ate the jelly beans prior to coming in, by the nurse.

I have never failed one with any of my other pregnancies, but if this one comes back as positive for GD, I am refusing to take the 3 hour test. But I am wanting to avoid being labeled as GD, just in case we have any future children, because then I am automatic high risk and have to take the thing like 2-3 times during each subsequent pregnancy. I am still trying to get my body/hunger back on track after the thing yesterday, I didn't get to eat anything from 7:00 p.m. Monday until around 12:00 noon on Tuesday - I was told to fast prior to the test - nothing after midnight.
