Weight gain at this point? - Page 3

Just for you all, I went and got on the scales. I am up 7 pounds at 24 weeks, from 182 to 189. That's exactly how much I had gained at this point last time. My first PG I gained more in the beginning, maybe 12-15 pounds by this point.

In the long run with #1 and #2 I gained the same 28-29 pounds. I'd like to gain less this time because I started 10 pounds heavier than with either of the first two. But I'm not stressing about it. Hopefully since I started out as a heavier mama, I will not gain as much as some of you "skinny minnies." However I think that each of our bodies has a very individual amount of weight that it needs to carry a healthy PG... it's not something you can fight too much.

OK, I am getting panicked now. I keep reading that some of you gained most of your weight in the last few weeks. This cannot mean good things for me. I am doing well today- lots of fruits and veggies, whole grains and protein, and no snacky sweets other than the fruit. I hope I can keep myself in check with the ol' weight gain...

I really want to punch my doctor. Like I don't have food issues as it is... I need her to give me more. Grrr.

Not to be an alarmist, just to let you know... Watch for signs of pre-e. Facial swelling can be one of them. Quick gain is another.

SO DO MINE.

Okay, I wasn't concerned that my scale said 4 pounds instead of 5. I thought it was a fluke. But I hopped on this morning again and now it says 3 pounds.

I don't understand why this keeps happening. I will gain a pound or two and then lose some too. I thought with the full 5 pounds I was finally in the green and would be gaining instead of losing.

I hope nothing's wrong. I am so used to eating like mad and gain gain gain when I am pregnant. Heck, when not pregnant, I can't seem to lose a pound! And while I am a big mama and shouldn't be worried I still am. I just want to be sure the baby is getting enough, you know?

I wonder if my metabolism has just kicked into high gear instead of the usual sluggishness.

Still down a couple pounds. I keep swearing "this will be the month I gain!" and....nope. I even made it past the kids' b'day party with bbq and cake, and chowing on leftovers from that for a week, and nothing.

Granted, I was fat to begin with, so I may not need to gain much. And my OB said as long as I don't start losing weight, but it's bizarre to me all the same! My belly is bigger, my boobs are bigger...so why does the scale stay the same?

I think I would be losing more, but like you we're in the birthday and BBQ time (all three birthdays in summer plus others) and I have been eating naughty, sugary things. I wonder if not for those, if I would be losing quite a few more pounds.

I just hope it's okay. I mean, I keep saying that yah, I am big, so I shouldn't have to worry. But still, I wonder if I am taking in enough good stuff.

Now if only I start mysteriously losing weight AFTER the birth! WAHOO!!!

I'm happy for this thread. I started at a healthy 138 (or at least I think I did - I don't have a scale, but I've been about that weight for years) and had only gained about 6 pounds by 20 weeks, but I just went in this week - 23 - and I'm up to 150. I was so excited, because I had gained those 6 in the 1st trimester and then nothing. So I'm up 12 total, and feel like I'm doing just great. I'm so happy to be gaining this weight, and it seems to be almost entirely in my belly.

I'm at 13lbs so far-most of which has been in the last few weeks. I started off 20 pounds heavier than my ideal weight though. I was also so good about walking for an hour every afternoon and then we moved and I got off track.

Dang, like so many others I was worried at first by all those super low numbers... My numbers and my MW numbers are different because I guessed at what my PP weight was and I was about 8 lbs lighter. Granted, I had been weighing myself at the gym before we got preg and so I had a pretty good idea, but still.

So according to her I'd gained about 12 lbs at my last check up. I think it is really more like 15-20's at this point though. Summer is hard for me, we travel a lot and I have a hard time finding healthy veg options on the road : .

Oh, I gained 65 with DD and 45 with DS. I was shooting for the 30s with this babe and will be really happy if I only gain that much.

well-I may not gain weight DURING my pregnancy, but I make up for it afterwards!

Oh my...went to the doc today and I am up from 109 pre pregnancy to 130!!! DOH! I am trying to not put on as much weight as my last pregnancy, but I might end up gaining even more. How depressing and I think I would rather not look at the scale next time.

Alrighty, I guess it's confession time.
At my 21 week appt. I have gained.... -are you ready?-.....

....38 lbs.

I gained 55 lbs with ds1 and 50lbs with ds2. It looks like I'm going to blowing those numbers right out of the water. I think it's because I was so bloody tired and sick my first trimester that I really didn't leave my bed. And I developed a big aversion to veggies which isn't cool because I'm vegetarian. I ended up eating alot of starchy comfort foods like mashed potatoes and mac n cheese. Hopefully now that that's past and I'm feeling less like a slug I can get a better grip on this.

I'm right there with you. The veggies just aren't tasting good lately. Hello mac-n-cheese.

I am also finding this to be true. I develop an aversion to greens in particular. I have found a kale recipe I like, but I can hardly choke down the ol' spinach. I choke down the vegetables with ranch dip or rice vinegar, but it's tough. I love those new Veggie Chips that are 1/2 serving of veggies per 4 oz or something like that. It's not exactly veggies, but it's what I can do!

My worst indulgence is Flaming Hot baked Cheetos. This baby really likes the spicy stuff. Bring on the hot sauce!

If you count from the first appointment, I'm up 2lbs. If you count from the weight I was the last time I was at the midwife (I lost 8lbs at the beginning of the pregnancy), I'm up 10lbs. Either way, I'm not unhappy with it. As long as I don't cross a certain number on the scale, I'm cool. *laugh*

i weighed 182 last appt which was last thurs......my pre pg weight was at about 153. i've now gained about 30 lbs!!! i can't believe it. MW is now telling me i need to try and cool it, eat better, drink more water...etc. but it is tough. last pg i gained about 40 i think.

Looks like in the past 7 days I've packed on a few pounds! Quite a few. Sheesh!!!
I was up 33lbs at my last appointment, having gained something like 9 pounds in 3 weeks. Poop happens. MW was nice about it -- since I warned her that I don't respond well to chastisement (actually, I respond to chastisement by eating lots of brownies). She has had weight problems and gastric bypass, so was sympathetic. Three of the four other midwives are skinny minnies and apt to be less sympathetic.

Gina, is some of your gain from lots of protein and fluids???

I was around 130 pre-pregnancy. Lost at least 5-7 pounds in the first few months due to severe MS. Last night I weighed myself - 153.5!!!
Funny thing is I was 150 pounds even when I went into labor with ds at 41+ weeks (and he was 9 lbs!). I am 'supposed' to gain at least 40 pounds. When they told me that I about died, but now I am seeing it will be very likely, if not even more
My dh cracks up though b/c if you look at me straight from behind naked : there's not a single hint of me being pregnant, but as soon as I turn to my side - BOOM! He's affectionately nick-named me 'The Dome'
