Is anybody out there??

I'm having trouble sleeping because I am worried about Ds. He has had high fevers for four days (102-104) The fever went away today but he developed a rash on his face that is now spreading to his back. Dr. says it is roseolla which I agree with. What 's got me worried is that he has been unusually cold and clammy all day and it certainly isn't cold here. He has been nursing a lot but has no interest in solids, he was fussy todays but he played in short spurts. Anyways, does anybody know if low temps are bad? I always thought there was such a thing as low grade fever but none of my books say anything about it. I just don't know if I should be worried or not. Can anybody help me?

I don't know about the cold and clammy, but maybe his body is compensating for having been so high/hot for several days..
I think if there mood worsens and they become limp and lethargic... etc.. then that might warrent another call to the doc or whomever...
But if he played even for short spurts.. that is a good sign..
Ongoing fevers are draining... I would make sure he is well hydrated and continue to watch for improved moood/spirit...
I wouldn't worry about not being interested in solids right now... Just keep the liquids in... popsicles from rice milk, or smoothy popsicles... I don't know how old he is... just keep on BFing if that's all he gets.
Trust his body to know what it's doing...
Once he is all back together, you will have a new and transformed!!
Did you read this months Mothering article about the benefit of fevers?
I think roseolla is viral no?? So even thought the fever is done, his body is still occupied with rash etc...

Anyway, hang in there...It is awful to feel so powerless when they are sick.
This too shall pass....

Not too worry. It sounds like he is moving thru this just fine, but oh! is it scary in the midst!
I too, agree, listlessness would, should be a concern.
But the high fever, followed by a rash, clammy body (which I think too, is his little body reaching a balance after that fever) and then bits of play sounds like progress.
When a fever peaks and drops and peaks and drops as he did (102-104), that is a good sign. (As opposed to peaking and staying peaked)
Does he have a low grade fever now? I have never heard of one being bad, it is the body fighting the infection. Again if it is accompanied by listlessness, then it might be an alert.
Just keep on bfing, that's the best!!!!

Thanks so much for your advice! We finally managed to get some restless sleep last night. I too think the low temp and clamminess is his body working itself back to normal. His rash has spread but he is smiling and playing Things seem so much worse in the middle of the night. The article in Mothering came at the perfect time for us, I had read it the night before he got sick. Anyways thanks again!!!!!!
