Vancouver mom-to-be

Hi all,

I've been shy about posting because this pregnancy has felt so new and vulnerable even though I'm now almost 17 weeks. I got pregnant for the first time at age 36 and assumed I'd have a miscarriage because of my "advanced maternal age"...then I worried about birth defects or fetal loss after the triple-screen blood test and potential amnio.

I've finally passed both hurdles! Today my MW announced that I had the best possible results from the triple screen, no need for an amnio. Maybe I can stop trying to protect myself from disappointment and grief, all the while knowing that anything can happen?

Thanks, I look forward to hanging around this DDC.

Expecting first child on Dec. 24.

Oh yay! Welcome! Don't worry so much about your age. My mom didn't even START having kids until she was 30.

Are you from Vancouver, Washington? Or Vancouver B.C.?

36 is not that old to have kids!! Congrats on your pregnancy and welcome to the group!

Congrats - how exciting! And yay for having a clear triple screen test result! That must set your mind at ease. 36 doesn't seem like an "advanced maternal age" to me even though that's the lingo they use - a lot of people I know have kids well in their 30s. My ex-boyfriend's mother was 48 when he was born (he was her 10th child)! Anyway welcome - it's good to have somewhere to share the joys as well as the worries!

Welcome greenbanana! Isn't it amazing to get that great news, especially after preparing yourself for something more dire? I'm another "older" mom at 37, pregnant with my first. I tried to prepare myself for the possibility of m/c as well, knowing the statistics all too well. I've also passed all of my milestones with flying colors and now, at 21 weeks, am reveling in my healthy pregnancy! Enjoy this time!

Glad you're here!

I can totally relate. I was 36 with my first pregnancy, and had all the same feelings and fears. I now have the most beautiful 2-year-old boy and am pregnant again.

Welcome!

I'm from Lynden... right across the border! The border is like literally only one minute from me!
