What are good deals at Costco? - Page 4

I can't beat their price for maple syrup, vanilla extract, Alaskan Salmon, cream cheese, 5 dozen eggs, flourless spouted grain bread anywhere else. There are other things that are good prices but those are cheap enough I refuse to buy them elsewhere. Means I end up freezing the bread.

How does it compare to Sam's Club? I'd love to get a membership when our Sam's runs out, but dh isn't convinced (Costco is a good deal farther away than sam's). I grew up right next to the first Costco, and have so many memories

I always get their peanut butter. It's comparable to every other organic peanut butter I've tried . . . and much cheaper too . . .

I was personally not wild about the Kirkland organic PB. They have a natural brand in the refrig case (near the fancy cheeses, salsa and hummus) that I thought was much better, although I'm not sure if it's organic.

The Kirkland kind made some fierce PB cookies, though.

One thing I love at Costco is the humongous jar of marinated artichokes. Ohhhh baby! They also have better prices on dairy than anywhere around here, great hummus for about $5 a giant tub, and their produce is gorgeous and fresh. We don't have much organic produce here, but it must be a little organic. A lady found a black widow spider in her tub of grapes a couple weeks ago!

It's really been worth the membership fee for us, by my calculations we made it up in a trip or two. We don't even buy the meat there and we still save quite a bit.

My friend offered to take me there on Thursday, so I'm excited!

This is a cash-only place I take it?

You can use cash, debit (I believe), checks, and the Costco/Amex card. If you are shopping with a friend, you'd probably just need her to pay for the items and then either give her the cash or a check.

You would also be able to pay with your debit card since you swipe it yourself and the cashier never sees the name on the card.

Just an FYI- IME, they will ring multiple orders on the same card. I tag along with my brother (he has the executive membership so he gets the rebate from what I buy and I save the fee since we don't go all that often) and they always take his card for both baskets and we usually pay with separate cards. When we carried our own membership, our friends tagged along and paid separately a lot.

Higher quality stuff for about the same price. Employees are treated better - higher wages, health care, retirement benefits. Some stores are unionized, whereas Sams/WalMart union-busts.Here's a good article on the difference...

I love Costco. Do all my Christmas shopping there. All my cloths, most of the kids cloths. I have already picked up most of dd's school cloths and have spent just over $100. I'm in Canada so grocheries here is just expensive period. We went to Whitefish Montana for a weekend and went into the Costco there. WOW. Pacific organic chicken broth 6 for $7, Pacific organic creamy tomato soups (large tetra packs) 6 for $7, Organic butter was so cheap 2lb for $8 (here it's 1/2lb for $4.50), organic cheese strings for the kids. I didn't bring back any of the dairy because of border issues. Of couse they didn't check and I regreted not stocking up on the butter.

Dh bought golf clubs there super cheap and they are actually not a bad set. Books are cheap, especially learning books for the kids. Sock and undies. Lately our Costco has been carrying a great selection of organic snack foods, which is a nice treat every once in a while.

I HIGHLY recommend both the organic strawberry jam (brand=Sunspire)(YUM) and the organic peanut butter. No problems with runiness. It is delish!!

The jelly is slightly runny, but very good. It does turn kinda quick though, because there are no preservatives. I don't know if you can freeze it....I guess you could?

You can also get the Costco AMex card and get rebates that way - it's no-fee, and it's the only credit card Costco accepts.

you can read my previous post. We have gotten hundreds and hundreds of dollars in free stuff because of our costco American express. :

We actually got two rebates. One was for the american express card and one for the executive membership.

We love the hummus that the Des Moines and Chicago Costcos sells...the brand is Basha's I think (so cheap!)...but the West coast hummus brand is different and not very good.

DH gets tools; we buy the shredded parmesan in the big tub, and keep it frozen. Also, frozen Alaskan fish (it's the only fish we can eat), cheese, SmartWool socks, and jeans for DH. Electric toothbrushes, Brita filters, gas for sure, broccoli florets and organic baby carrots. TP, bottled waters occasionally for the fridge, cereal.

...oh, and fruit leathers for the kids! When I was pg, peppermint patties to satisfy my urges, and cases of beer when needed...

I know there's lots more too...but that's our regular stuff.
