Regarding the huge agri-businesses and their organics, it just reinforces the need for consumers to mindfully purchase directly from farmers at farmers markets and farm stands or through CSAs.

Here's an article referencing that study:

although it too mentions that the older, banned pesticides are still present.

*quickly hopping on again!

DDT and the like will be around for a very, very long time. We can't change that..... But we can change what goes on from here on out. The chemist is not in the least bit to blame (that is like blaming a gun manufacturer for a shooting death...). it is the public and thier sense of entitlement to cheap food that is the true culprit. My family has always been a farming family. When commodity prices go low- we try to raise more. When prices go even lower- we still try to raise even more. How can a conventional farmer do that? with gmos, pesticides, and insecticides. Everyone knows that stuff will do harm- but they are still forced to use it (well not forced- but it is extremely difficult to get financed to grow an organic crop- and banks don't question conventional- I don't really know of too many who can take a crop to the bin without getting financed).

*off box.
