At the Holistic Mom's group meeting last night, the speaker was a gal that teaches Brain Gym. Has anybody tried it? It was really interesting! It's about improving brain function thru movement. It's hard to explain because it was only an hour long introduction. I'm thinking about implementing the techniques with Nate and my NT DD.

We saw a brain gym consultant and did not have a good experience at all. Now, it could have been the consultant, I didn't trust her at all. But I don't think the exercises could hurt at all.

I have the book and we have done some exercises...I haven't seen a difference here but that's just us.

I've got the feeling that it's another one of those it helps 'some kids' kind of thing. I have a massage therapist background so those 'woo woo' theories really get me. I think I gave her a lot of credit since she also did cranio sacral which I know from experience is a fabulous therapy.
I don't think it'd hurt but I was a little hopeful that it would help more. Thanks for the input!!!

I seem to remember Donna Williams (one of many autistic writers/bloggers) writing that Brain Gym exercises helped her with auditory processing.

I would guess that it's almost certainly one of those things that will help some but not others. With almost everything being like that, it's so tough to decide what to do and not to do sometimes, I think. Brain Gym is one of many things on my "maybe someday if we have more time and it doesn't cost too much" list.

I forgot to add that I asked our naturopath about it too. His opinion was that it wouldn't make a huge difference in my son but couldn't hurt and could help some things if that makes sense.

I took a Brain Gym class 2 years ago. It's basically simplified yoga poses for kids (or adults w/neurological issues). So if you believe in the mind-body connection for yoga, the same principle applies to Brain Gym. The exercises helped ds1 with body awareness, but we've fallen off the Brain Gym bandwagon since ds2 was born.

I've read some about it and tried a few of the poses, but haven't noticed any results. I asked our SLP about it and she wasn't a fan of it. I think our OT may be trained in it, but I'm not sure.
