One *really* great side effect of joining this challenge is that I check here before I go anywhere else on MDC and it stops me from shopping! The coop board used to be my first stop and then the TP, but no more. After I come here and see all your good progress, I'm inspired not to shop!

PS - Sorry for so much rambling, I feel like I'm just talking away over here. It helps to have people to be accountable to tho (besides DH) and I do'nt know, this is better than writing it in my journal. Thanks for listening.

I will still be way on board for the Sept challenge, but it seems that I will be working at least through Sept! and hopefully longer if I get the job! so we will be out of our summer debt and maybe get a little more wiggle room. whew.

One thing that makes saving money hard, at least for me, is that the pay-off or reward for all my efforts is so sloooooooooooooow.

When I go out and buy something, I get instant gratification, but it just takes FOREVER to pay on this credit card.

I really do have to keep reminding myself over and over that the reward of being out of debt will be so much better than the reward of yet another latte or diaper.

It's hard.

It was a lot easier getting into debt than getting out of it.

I know, no great philosophical musing here, I'm just thinking out loud.

I'm paying off a huge credit card now. It sucks. When I think of all the crap I bought with it that I didn't really need I get so mad that I have to pay interest on it.

The laptop was worth it so was the hostel booking for my trip to NYC and the things I got there. The late night pizza take out (many nights) is NOT worth the interest I'm now paying! So from now on when I do use my credit card I will ask myself if I'm willing to pay $20 for the item AND the interest if it isn't paid by a certain time.

I hear you on this one!!! Shop therapy. The only reason I didn't do some serious damage to cc at aquarium adventure yesterday was because they were closed!!! Bad session w/cancer patient.

On a positive note, I paid off two credit cards yesterday and moved them from my wallet to the drawer where they can't be used except in emergencies. That means I only have two credit cards with balances and one of them is the one I use for regular, every day expenditures (so I expect a balance and strive to pay it off in full every month, but haven't been paid for my freelance work the last couple of months, so have had to carry a balance). Yay for that!
This is so good! Paying off cc is no small feat! I'm sending you a high five!

I could have written this post, except for the CC! We don't have CC's, but we finally do have positive balances and enough, or nearly, to pay the next oil bill. It was $439 last time, but will be less this time b/c we don't have to have it primed. But I don't know how much it will be or how long it will last for fall/winter. It's a 250-gallon tank, and the minimum order is 200 gallons.
