Aw, that's a bummer. I love my tatts, and I'm planning for my next one (for Christmas, turtle and I are giving each other tattoos--I'm up in the air as to what I want, though I'm fairly certain that I want it on the back of my right calf...so, maybe a cow!? )

nak

Jumping in to hopefully motivate myself to actually finally start getting better with saving.

1. Please introduce yourself and tell us anything you think it would help us to know about yourself.

Young SAHM to one crazy happy baby, My soon to be husband is a cook hes making VERY little at the moment but will hopefully be working up the food chain ( ) soon and be making a little more. We moved in with are only form of support my mother so we could save and actually be able to live, theres no way wed be able to make it in the city we live in otherwise. We have no other family near or even in the same state. Last few months weve been so lazy with saving, since we dont have a lot of bills we end up spending more instead of saving. Totally wasting the whole reason we moved in with my mother. I was raised wealthy not having to EVER check for the price of things untill my dad lost all his money and both my parents had to declare bankruptcy so watching what I spend and actually having money problems is a whole new thing.
I def need help, support, and ideas.

2. Please tell us why you have decided to spend nothing (or spend significantly less) for the Month of August. Memorize these goals and recite them to yourself before all purchases.

I NEED a car, we are going to be moving even further out of the city and if I ever want to get out of the house im gonna need one. Also when we move my mom is gonna start wanting rent. So need money for moving and other expenses

both me and dp would like to go back to school and dont want to have to be put into serious debt to do so

ds is getting bigger so soon the grocery bill will be too among other bills

start saving more so we can stay out of debt if the shit ever really hits the fan, again...

oh and need to get myself health insurance since my mom cant afford to cover me anymore

3. No spending is hard work. You need a plan. Please tell us your game plan -- how do you plan to approach no spending for a month?

groceries and gas, thats it! if we do have the chance for a date night keep it under 50$

Too late for August, but we'll give September a whirl!

I'm glad I found this thread...it's very needed in our world where we have been trying to get our necessaries and wants under control. We just cleaned out (or rather shoveled out) the kids rooms and tossed or donated all that was not used within the last few weeks, with the exception of last year's winter clothes that still fit. School clothes were purchased for discounted prices online and we've got groceries for awhile. Here we go!

August 23rd: $4.76 @ Rite Aid (got a lot though ) and $4.20 on slurpees @ 7-11 for me and the kids
post #913 of 1106
1. Spent 1.19 on bag of M&Ms (allowable, since I paid with cash from my desk)
2. Paid for a binsi via Paypal ($9.60, committed to before joining the challenge... and a binsi for less than $10 is a screaming deal!)
3. On my way to the grocery store. Goal: spend less than $80 and DO NOT deviate from list (for me, that will be an accomplishment in and of itself).

UPDATE: Spent $87 at the grocery store, and bought one item not on the list: canning jars to make plum jam. Hmph. Oh well, tomorrow is another day. I can't really regret the canning jars, since they'll allow me to utilize all the plums hanging off our tree. And the plastic freezer jam cups were cheaper, but they were evil plastic. I did pick up a second item not on the list, but I put it back before leaving the store.

Oh, I hear you. I had a new one done a month or two ago and I'm already planning my next one. My idea is to give myself a "mad money" allowance and whatever I have left at the end of the month goes into an envelope (or jar...) for my next tatt.

I think it's a brilliant plan, though I have yet to implement it.

I just spent $74.00 online. :

None of it was truly necessary and I'll be honest with that. However, our local news station's website has a "Local for Less" deal where you can purchase gift certificates to various local businesses for half off. I got $40 to a restaurant that's by our church and $100 to a local salon, which I'll use to have my hair highlighted and cut. Good hair is one of the most important things to me (yes, I know that sounds vain) and going to a discount place just won't do it for me. I think if I promise to do red highlights DH will be okay with it. Moral of the story is, it's not even safe for me to stay home anymore!
