What a great idea and a great thread!

I know August is almost over but I will join definitely for September.

I have to save some money for tuition because I am going back to school in 2 years when my youngest starts kindergarten. I have to save as much as I possibly can.

My weakness..I have 4 kids and they want things. My 13 year old just picked up a job walking a neighbor kid to school and home(her mom has twin babies) and my oldest is looking for a parttime job too.

I have to pick up a couple more things for school and I know there will be start off for school things that I have budgeted for.

My goal is not to go through coffee drive-thrus or other drive thrus, no icecream store, no impulse shopping, no buying stuff just to have stuff or just because it's on sale.

I shop once a month for all my canned/dried/drygoods etc. I buy at a local discount grocery store.

I walk to our local grocery store for perishables like milk and vegetables every other day.

I buy eggs at the neighbor's farm fresh and cheap.

I want to have savings at the end of September(the 28th) Since I buy my groceries every month on that day.

I don't know how much I can save but I want to be more organized and on top of things. I know I overspend some.

I will be back!

I'm too late to do this now, but I certainly could have used it. Will there be another one for September?

SO do you copy and paste your whole month every time you repost, or just the new dates?

8/24 -$0 - YAY!!!!
8/25 - $10 McD's, $20 at thrift store

I'm tempted to go back to the thrift store b/c they had a Magic Bullet there for half off the $40.99 price tag. I don't need one, but I'm going to take some stuff to the ebay store this week (big stuff that I don't have time/energy to pack up, but could use the cash), so figure I could drop it off too and maybe the cash I'd make on it would pay the fees? I have to go back that way anyway, it wouldn't be anything to run in and pick it up. Hmmm...they're going for around $70 right now, so even if it sold for less than that, I'd still make money?

Decisions, decisions...

Please tell me you're not talking about the vibe. Don't make me have to dust off my "Never, EVER buy sex toys second-hand" speech. Because I will.

1. Please introduce yourself and tell us anything you think it would help us to know about yourself.
My name is Shannon and we have 2 kids, a 3 yo and 10 yo. My partner is Jose. I WOTH and partner stays with kids most of the time. He hasn't worked regularly in 2+ years due to spinal cord injury and I have just begun a new career as a medical interpreter. Money is very tight. I work on call, so I have no guaranteed hours until I move up to full time at one of my jobs and can quit the others. (I have 3 jobs)

2. Please tell us why you have decided to spend nothing (or spend significantly less) for the Month of August. Memorize these goals and recite them to yourself before all purchases.

-I have come to realize that we are not poor; we are surviving and we will make it. Spending money to assuage my guilt about not being at home is counter-productive.
-I have to stop buying stuff to justify my hard work. Money in the bank is security. A new ______ is not!!!
-The more stuff we have, the more stuff we have to take care of and spend time and money on!!!

My goals are:
1. Pay money back to my son's account.
2. Build up savings account as a safety net.
3. Create a realistic budget.
4. No fast food. Eat out once a week as a family at good quality restaurant...no wrappers on the food!
5. PACK ALL LUNCHES!!!

3. No spending is hard work. You need a plan. Please tell us your game plan -- how do you plan to approach no spending for a month?

Follow budget we create, making sure to include good quality food for everyone to pack in their lunches.

Go shopping twice a month with a planned menu and list.

Use one credit card and pay off amount at month's end.

Tally receipts weekly to see where the money has gone.

NO Lands End website, Target and Victoria's Secret website!

Today I spent:
$3.25 for iced coffee plus $1.00 tip (Seeing it there is really a bit horrifying!)

Today I also: earned $22.00 at new tutoring job! It is going directly into the savings account, because it is cash and I can feel it in my wallet, screaming to be spent!

Wow! It's going down? My tooth fairy gave me $2/tooth! And I had a little pillow with a pocket in the back where I'd put the tooth, and the money would be there in the morning. That was so cooooool! Thanks for a nostalgic moment... :
