So sorry that happened- that is horrid.
I have no advice but I would let him go to camp. At 8 yo the disappointment of not going would be huge if he has his heart set on it. It is not his fault this happened...
But I am not sure how but that nurse should lose her job.
So Sorry.

I say let him go to camp, and see if there's an intelligent nurse or first aid person or counselor on staff who might be able to do the occasional penis check for him and make sure no bad gunk got in there. bad nurse. bad nurse. i'll have nightmares now.

Why is the boy scout camp so interested in his genitals???

Ugh I have no advice, but I hope you get her. This makes me steam.

: OMG - I am right there with you!
What a horrible beeeotch!

I would make sure you report her to the docs in the group. (along with anyone else possible!)

As for camp - is there anyway he could use vaseline or something to cover the area so no dirt or mud could get in?
(not sure if that is a stupid suggestion or not - we are pretty new to the whole intactness thing that is just the first thought I had!)

I dont know about how to keep stuff out of there but I do know that if he gets a infection you can use a OTC cream called bacatracin to put on there if it does happen. You could even use it now till he heals from the tear.

Your poor ds I would tell him from now on if he is going to have a testicle exam to reach down and hold his penis and not allow the Dr. to touch it at all. Let him know that what the dr did was wrong and you will be taking steps to make sure that dr never touches him again.

This is a good teaching oportunity to explain to him further about his body and his rights.

I would be livid as well. I am glad you are going to take further action on it and hope that she either learns or is punished in some way.

The AAP Intact Care Guide has on there about how it can take till the teen years to be retractable. Make sure you print that one out for her and underline that part and highlight it as well.

Here it is:

AAP Intact care guide: http://www.medem.com/search/article_..._typ=NAV_SERCH

Quote:
Most boys will be able to retract their foreskins by the time they are 5 years old, yet others will not be able to until the teenage years. As a boy becomes more aware of his body, he will most likely discover how to retract his own foreskin. But foreskin retraction should never be forced. Until separation occurs, do not try to pull the foreskin back — especially an infant's. Forcing the foreskin to retract before it is ready may severely harm the penis and cause pain, bleeding and tears in the skin.

Can you press charges on her for assault? I mean, is this something you can press criminal charges for, in addition to a malpractice suit?

I'm so sorry that happened.

As for should he go, probably. You migth just be worried about nothing, but here's a nother idea;
Teach him how to pee like men might do in low water/war situations since he'll be camping, etc. Just make it part of the, what yoou need to know when you have to pee/poop in the woods... for example, never wipe with poison ivy.

Someone may need to tweak this description a bit... but hold end of foreskin and start to pee... let some pressure build up and then release.... The urine will flush out anything icky.... and for an 8 year old it migth be 'fun'.

Use momma's judgement on if that will work for him... or cause too much troublemaking... I remember some posters talking about peeing contests, lol.

Hope it clears up quickly so he can enjoy camp.

Honestly, I wouldn't worry so much about the camping/infection thing. I'm thinking of all the wounds I've had all over the body that never got infected from swimming in a lake or murky pond or getting in yucky mud and not washing. And since the foreskin is back in place and not being retracted anymore I wouldn't consider it an ongoing problem. I would not restrict his activities at all. JMO.

Which is NOT to say that what that NP did was not a big deal!! I hope you fry her a##!!

Best of luck prosecuting her.

Is this what your looking for?

The attorney for Doctors Opposing Circumcision, John Geisheker, will send a letter to the doctor/nurse/hospital pro bono (free) on your behalf telling them what they did was wrong and the consequences. It isn't a letter stating you'll sue but it is fully referenced and ought to get their attention.

Email him at kiwijohn2@cs.com

Before you contact John, you will need the following information:

The name of the doctor or nurse who did this, the name of his/her practice and their (snail) mailing address.

The name of the hospital where the doctor has privileges, (the hospital where they practice) and the mailing address. (even if it didn’t happen at the hospital)

The name of the CEO or Administrator of the hospital. (even if it didn't happen in the hospital, find out where the offending doctor has privileges and send it to those hospitals)

The name of the hospital's risk manager.

The name of the head of the department (OB, peds, emergency, etc.)

Letters will also be sent to:

The state medical board in your state.

The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (hospitals fear them like a boogeyman)

This is the part that really bothers me. How many other boys has she done this to and "had" to be circ'd because of her idiotic advice???!!!!

Good luck to your son. Let him enjoy his time at camp.
