Locker room incident...

So it truly was no big deal. Ds is seven and intact. He is going to a summer day camp for the first time. they go swimming everyday, weather permitting, so there is a lot of little boy nakedness in the locker room. Anyway, ds already knows what circumcision is as he asked wh ya freind's penis looked different a year(or maybe more) ago. I had told him that every baby boy's penis looked like his when they are born but some parents choose to have a dr cut off the skin on the end. So when 3 or 4 of the other boys told ds that his penis looked weird he told them it was "b/c your parents let a dr cut part of yours off"--his words. One boy apparently asked his mom about it and I guess she told him "yup" thats what we did cause ds said that X believed him cause he asked his mom about it but the other boys don't beleive it. Anyway, ds did not seem bothered by it in the least, and I asked him if he wished his looked like theirs and he said, well it does if I pull the skin back and that he was glad I didn't let the dr cut any of his off cause he thinks it would hurt--I told him it does!

Such a great kid! Good for you for raising a boy with compassion and knowledge!

I mean who'd you rather be; the boy with all of his penis or the boy that had part of his penis cut off?!

Is your son the only intact boy there? It sounds like your son handled it well!

The circ rate is pretty high around here and it is a jewish daycamp--though not all the participants are jewish so its highly probable he is the only intact.
It does suck though--it pisses me off that some little booger is telling MY SON that his penis looks weird! But yes ds seemed fine with it.

Thank you so much for telling your son's story. I just read it to circumcised DH and he loved it as much as I did! Not that there was any doubt, but it just makes us that much more happy we decided to be the first ones in our families to not circumcise our son.

I hope you can help mom's who are still on the fence to realize the "locker room" argument can be handled by a well educated child!

That is amazing, kudos to your son, it's great that with him being so young he handled that so well.
