Intentional Gagging in almost 2 yr. old.

Okay I will just get to the point..

My son is teething and for the last few weeks he has been chewing on his hands,no biggie,we go thru teething He!! here every time he teeths.
:

He is getting his last 2 bottom molars and the top ones as well.

Well he has discovered and figured out how to gag himself to the point of throwing up now.

The first few times he had his hands in his mouth and then threw up I thought it was a accident from him chewing his hands and putting them to far into the back of the mouth and something that just happened .

Lately when he starts nawing on his hands I will distract him and redirect him to something, for example this morning he was gagging him self and I asked him to come help mommy carry the clothes. This prevented him from continuing the gagging..

Well fast forward to about an hour ago. I am sitting on the couch and he is playing with his cars..I am watching him play and talking to him and he puts down a car sticks a hand in his mouth and starts to gag himself..and then he pukes..he is hysterical laughing and starts to run away..eww...puke everwhere...and he had just had a cup of milk an hour or so before...

So what do I do now? I don't want him to keep doing this intentionaly as it seems he is.. I am afraid it might become something he does when upset and frustrated over something If I make a big deal about it..

I suppose it it something new and exciting that he has figured out he could make himself do.

I mean puke is puke and I would not care if it was accidental or from not feeling well..but this is differant.

Suggestions please

DD did this. She did not puke every time but she did gag in away that was scary. She also liked to do it in the car so I always would here this choking sound and have a small heart attack until I realized it was her hand.

She found it hysterical.

I ignored it the best I could. It stopped soon after.

my two year old does this. he has not yet noticed me noticing, so i haven't adressed it with him. he hasn't thrown up from it (though he did throw up in the car wed for no appearent reason....).

i have no advice, but it's nice to hear i'm not the only one.

my dd (who is 2.5) did it too, she would do it alot.. my Ped said it was fine and it was just a phase -that she was discovering her body and to ignore her and she'd stop.. She stopped!!!

My DS did this too. He didn't puke all that much but got very much into the habit of gagging himself. It was annoying but I tried hard to just let it be, ignore it for the most part. The more attention/annoyance I placed on it, the more determined he'd become in his mission. Once I let it go, he eventually did as well.

Mainly, he just found something rather powerful about his body that he had the POWER to control. To a kid this is quite a revelation! Pretty soon he'll be onto some other really cool thing he can do that's new and leave it behind. It is afterall, all about control and power.

This too shall pass, mama. Hang in there.

The best,
Em

My son started that at about 2, minus the actual puking.

He still does it to freak me out. (he's 10 now.)
