I'm finally beginning to catch my breath a bit. The suitcases still need to be unpacked and I'm still sorting through mail, but we are all finally adjusting more to being home. DH is (happily) back at work. Thank goodness my mom is still here to help. She leaves on Sunday and I know we will all miss her dearly.

I took Finn in to our pediatrician yesterday afternoon, just so he could check him out. That was always part of the plan. We had such a great visit. Our ped has been so inspired by Finn and his journey. He said over and over again how great he looked. It was a week ago today that he had his surgery - and he is just doing so wonderfully. Obviously, he still has a long line of sutures down the back of his head and other various bruises and whatnot from his hospital stay. But he clearly has had no regression or other setbacks. He's not even especially tired! We remain optimistic that he is just going to continue to get better and better, especially when it comes to his gross and fine motor skills.

I want to say thank you so much to all of you who have encouraged and supported us on our journey. I am especially grateful for all the excellent hospital advice! Some of the things I think I would have figured out on our own, but many others I wouldn't have thought of. These suggestions were especially helpful: bringing pictures of Finn and family members to hang around the room; writing down EVERYTHING and respectfully asking lots of questions; not being freaked out by the many sensors that were attached to him; asking that his foreskin not be retracted when inserting the catheter; knowing he would be puffy after the surgery; bringing his special toys and street clothes; bringing our own soap and shampoo; and nursing him while leaning over his bed when he couldn't yet be lifted. I'm sure there are other things too I've forgotten, but those are the main ones that come to mind. Oh, and befriending the nurses was also very helpful. The two main nurses we had were so incredible. I'm actually sending them cards and chocolates in the mail in the next couple of days. I can NOT imagine being a nurse in a PICU. What an intense job that would be!

Anyway, thanks again and please continue to keep Finn in your thoughts and prayers. He still has a long way to go but he has already come so far too! Not many 10-month olds have "underwent a very successful craniotomy" as part of their milestones/accomplishments!
