when to hire a midwife?

My dh and I are talking about TTC. We are also 100% positive that we will move in 11 months, at the end of his training (he's doing a fellowship in the city we live in now). I have concerns about getting pregnant when we know there is another big event coming up. We have a daugter, 2.25, and these events will affect her, too. We had her in the hospital. This time around, if we do get pregnant, I would like to be in a birthing ceter with a midwife attending. Does one hire a midwife from the beginning, so that she is with you for the entire pregnancy, or could I hire one in the end of my pregnancy, should we move and be in a new town for the last trimester? What makes sense here from a midwife's perspective? Just go for it and figure it out as we go along, or wait, and use the same midwife for the whole pregnancy wherever we end up moving?

Thanks for your input.

Personally I'd want to find a midwife ASAP so you can develop a relationship -- also a lot of midwives fill up early. Do you know where you're going to be moving? I'd start looking around there.

I would find one right at the beginning of your pregnancy. If you do move at the very end of your pregnancy, it will be easier to find a midwife based on the fact that you will have been receiving prenatal care already.

I'll be in a similar situation. I plan to start my care here and switch when I move. I'm trying to start researching midwives now so I know what my options are when I move.

My bigger issue is I'll be in a different state so my insurance isn't valid where I'm moving to (no network there) and I can't get insurance in the new state because I'm out of state currently. I'm hoping I won't run into a big ordeal to switch once I move if I am pg.
