We have a 4.5 yr old who is mostly ok at night, sometimes wet though. I need to replace our waterproof mattress cover because there's a hole in the side and I got to thinking maybe I could use wool instead. But they are expensive. We do have a handful of wool blankets -- maybe I could use those? Would I want to felt it first?

I wanted a wool mattress cover for our family bed but ultimately decided that they were awfully expensive. I went with this cotton/natural rubber pad from Tiny Bird Organics instead (scroll down to "cotton/rubber pad"). It's not as breathable as wool, but I've been sleeping on it for several nights now and it works fine for me. We had natural rubber "puddle pads" when I was a kid and they worked great. They also have a wool crib puddle pad for about the same price.
