how much does it cost to use a slow cooker?

I just can't figure it out... I want to understand if using a slow cooker conserves energy or it it's the same as the stove top. How much does it cost to run a slow cooker on low per hour VS a stove top? Has anyone calculated it?

I believe a slow cooker running for 10 hours uses about ten cents. Obviously, it depends on your electricity prices, but I don't think any oven can beat that price!

I've always heard it is cheaper/uses less energy to use a slow cooker than to use the stove or oven, but I don't know numbers.

I read the 10 cents/ 10 hours statistics too and hope it's true.

I think it is about the same as leaving a light on. Which is pretty cost effective vs. using the oven.

This calculator lets you enter your usage and wattage of various appliances and then estimates the electric costs. If you drill down on Kitchen, Crockpot is the last one on the list but it will itemize an estimate for you.

There is not an imprint or a sticker on the metal part of the cooker? Mine has a sticker on the bottom. I checked it just now to see. It says 340W. If you don't see a sticker on yours, you could google the model name and number and see if the manual is online. If not, find the online manual for a comparable model.

I calculated mine out recently. My small crock-pot, 3.5 qts, is 200 watts and uses 7 cents for 8 hours of off-peak usage and 10 cents for 8 hours of on-peak usage. My 6.5 qt crockpot is 320 watts and uses 12 cents for off-peak and 16 cents for on-peak usage in 8 hours.

My power rates are $0.05772 per kWh for on-peak and $0.04398 per kWh for off-peak energy.
