So-called Special Educator!

I got to meet Devon's Spec. Instructor for the 1st time and she actually used the word "slow" to describe one of her students and I was just dumbstrucked...

I am infuriated at her and I am still thinking about it.
Devon was not in the mood and was tired and crying and this woman said to her "you shouldn't cry so much, you should be smiling"..."you should be grasping, not doing that..."

The S.I woman was aggressive, not sympathetic to Devon and was abrupt to leave when her time was up because her meter was about to run out? Why didn't she put in enough quarters?

I want to change the S. I person and I am not afraid to tell the service coord.
I don't want her back in my house ever again!

I hope she was just having a really bad day and isn't always that bad. That's not an excuse for her unprofessional behavior, just a wish that her other clients don't always get that kind of treatment.

I wish people would stop using "slow" in that way. My eldest really is slow, not stupid. He has a very slow processing speed, and he's very smart. The general misuse of that word makes it really had to explain to people what this child is like. As soon as I say "slow" they assume he has low intelligence. They want to dumb things down for him, when that's the last thing he needs. He needs challenging work, and extra time to do it. GRRRR I'll get off that soap box now.

I DID.
She supposedly have been a S.I for 13 years!!! in various different agencies.
Another thing that made me question her was the way she looked at DD.
My DD has low muscle tone, so she movements can appear off coordination. And since she is still perfecting her sitting (she is 15 mos) she is wobbly. DD has strabimus that is intermittent and the woman said "she looked out of it".

1st. of all. EVEN if that is true. Where do you get off telling me this?:

I just HAD to asked if she'd worked with hypotonic kids b/f and her reply was that she worked with kids with a arrays of issues.
You think this woman just got off the streets an into my house.

It was unreal.
