designing my logo?

OK, since everyone is so generous with sharing, Ithought maybe you can help me designing my logo. I know some people use photoshop, I don't have that program, is it worth the money to buy?

How else did everyone do their logo? I am trying to do it very low cost. I love Pam's logo, how did you do that?

I moved my website today, showed my new hired midwife around, and took some photos of my office to post! Keeping up on these threads has really inspired me to get my act together.

Well, my husband is a marketing/graphic design person, so he's done my logo, business cards, brochures, etc. as well as a couple other friends who are in the birthing field.

As for photoshop, it's about an $800 program, incredibly complex in what it can do, but even to design a logo it would take some time to learn and understand how to use it (it's essentially a drawing program with lots of bells and whistles), so my guess is it might not be worth the $800 unless you're intending on using it for lots of other stuff.

If you do need some help, my husband offers friendly rates for birth professionals since so manyof us seem to need/want marketing help! Much cheaper that a design firm or most independant freelancers would charge you. If you're interested, email me and I can give you his info. to contact him directly.

The most artistic of the 3 of us drew our logo by hand, scanned it in, and cleaned it up in Photoshop. I think you can get a trial version on Adobe's website. It is very complex though, not easy to learn. It's funny because we get TONS of people asking us who designed our logo so they can hire them! But it was just us talking about what we wanted, and her managing to capture it on paper. it was pretty great the way it worked out.

If you can work fast, Adobe allows downloads of its programs for free 30 day trials.

And if you are slower than that, either use a friend's computer (new 30 day trial) or Adobe Illustrator (similar enough to Photoshop.

I use Adobe Illustrator. I love it, but it is expensive.

Well, my logo is a combination of something my oldest dd drew for me and something I created. I do not have photoshop - it is too expensive, but I did create mine in the paint program. I am sure it isn't as good as some, and definitely not as good as a graphic designer could create but I really like mine. I think it describes what I do. The pregnant woman part of it my oldest daughter drew for me when she was about 15 yrs old. I was complaining that I wanted a logo and dh is artistic, but he wouldn't do it so one day she went into her bedroom and came out with it and asked if it would work. I was so touched and so proud that I knew it had to work somehow - regardless because it was made out of pure love!!! Then I decided to change my business name a few months back to reflect all that I now do and again I knew I had to incorporate her drawing because although she is 19 1/2 yrs old now it still means the world to me and everytime I look at that I still see her face when she gave it to me.

I drew mine in photoshop. I wasn't thinking of using it as a logo then, just doing happy get ready to birth art. It was how I saw myself, and untimatley birthed.
