I started feeling really wierd on Thursday night, but I figured it was because I was so incredibly over tired and had been walking up and down our stairs all day long, etc. But by Friday mid-morning, when my hands and feet were swollen like inflatable cartoon appendages, I called my OB. Tom went out and bought a bp cuff, and I was consistenly over 150 for several hours. Sooo, off we went.
Thankfully, it wasn't eclampsia, which the er doc thought it was at first based on my symptoms, just fluid-retention high blood pressure. I had a headache the likes of which I've never experienced in my life, and my highest bp got up to 166/91!! The magic cure for all this - water pills. Hey, those are fun. I peed out TWO LITERS of fluid in under 90 minutes. That's a crazy amount. And I get to take one again today and tomorrow, and then go to my ob on Monday for a followup. In fact, I'd be napping with Jeffers right now, but I just took one of 'em and in a few more minutes I'll just be hangin' out on the potty for an hour or so....
I also got a "cocktail" for my headache, and may I say that REGLAN not only kicks some serious a@% when it comes to painkillers, but oh yes, it's known by it's other name DOMPERIDONE, and is widely known for increasing bm supply. I got some Reglan in an IV and I kid you not, in less than 2 hours my milk had come in and was running down my shirt. Just from one side, but I've never seen that before.
Tom took care of Jeffrey last night for me, so I've only nursed him twice so far, since then, but he's had a huge (and I mean HUGE) bm poop that took 3 wipes to clean up, and even shot out and sprayed me all over the hands and arm. Timothy loved that part.
SO pay attention to your bodies, all you post partum ladies! I wasn't having any night sweats, not peeing any more than usual, etc, and I KNEW I wasn't dumping fluids like I should have been. I just didn't make the connection between that and how I was feeling.

Bethany - SO glad it wasn't eclampsia!! Also glad the cure is a simple one, even if it does sound pretty ugh.
