Dh and I are having the hardest time coming up with a list of names. A couple of names have different pronunciations. We disagree over which is the more common pronunciation, so here is my oh-so-scientific method of proving that I am right .

If you like this poll, look for the next one coming soon...How do YOU pronounce Alicia?

Thanks!

Ell-ee-na.

And Alicia is A-lee-sha.

uh-LIN-a

Because I knew an Elena and that's how she said it. I like the name.

I pronounce Elena the way a Spanish-speaker would, which is eh-leh-nah pronunciation in English so I voted other.

Alicia I would pronounce Ah-lee-seeya (the last 5 letter real fast), also the way a Spanish-speaker would

I voted Eh-LEE-nuh, but could easily go either way, have heard it both was.

Now, Alicia is my mom's name, so I say it A-lee-sha

Eh-LAY-nah

And for Alicia, I usually pronounce it Uh-LISH-a, but it can also be Uh-LEE-see-ya... I've heard it both ways.

This is close to the second example in the first line, but I wasn't sure if this is what you meant:

EE-lay-nuh

Seems to me the emphasis is on the E and not the LAY. Not sure.

I live in California now and would pronounce it as a homonym of Elaina.

As a little girl growing up in an upper-middle class suburb of Philadelphia, I would have pronounced it "Ellen-uh". I'm not sure if that is because I knew a little girl who pronounced her name that way or because I was a shy, bookish child with a very large vocabulary of words that I had seen in print but never heard spoken so i was constantly mispronouncing things.

Alicia I would pronounce "Uh-LEESH-uh".

Both of them are beautiful names for little girls. They are classics, easy to pronounce and spell, and yet not overly used or too trendy.

I said "eh-LAY-nuh" but I also like "EL-en-uh". And I say Alicia "Al-EES-ee-ah".

I can't vote because you don't have all of the above.

We spell it Elaina and pronounce it with a long E. Our old neighbors were Hispanic and pronounced it with a short e and spelled their cousin's name the way it is spelled in the poll. I've heard some people say it like 'uh' instead of 'eh' also.

I knew an "Ah-lee-see-ya" in school, and she hated that it was pronounced that way. She constantly had to correct people who thought it was "Ah-lee-sha." My own opinion, though, is that it's rather pretty to pronounce it "ah-lee-see-ya." ??

Good names to choose from BTW!!
