stinky garbage disposal?

I've got this horrible funk coming from the sink - we have a disposal, and use it a now and then. But its smelling like something died in it.

I've tried vinegar, baking soda, running water, citrus fruits, etc.

What can I do to make the smell go away!?

Oh! I have it! I just discovered this by accident. I had some Borax that got damp, and it got really lumpy. I tried to use some to clean my sink, and the lumps wouldn't break up. I then flushed them down the drain, and ran the disposal. Afterwards I looked into the disposal, and it was shiny. I swear. Shiny.

Maybe put some Borax in, dampen it, let it sit a while, then run it.

Have you tried baking soda and vinegar together? We had a stinky clog and broke it up that way.

lemon rinds, ice, and a little dishsoap should clean out your disposal. just pack it with the lemon rinds and ice, put a squirt of dishsoap and run the disposal without running water.

Baking soda and ice! The BS deoderizes and the ice sharpens the blades (I heard that on a radio show once) It works great for me!

I scrub the sink with a paste of baking soda and vinegar, then rinse the sink with vinegar. I haven't had any problems with smell.

If you have any lying about, try Bac-out. Only down-side to that is that you have to leave it set for several hours, so maybe use it before retiring for the evening? It is an enzyme which digests the nasties.

Make vinegar ice cubes-
pour a little baking soda into the disposal first, then the cubes & chop.
