Question about pelvic floor?

I'm trying to figure out what's going on w/my pelvic floor. After my 2nd child was born (15 months ago), I feel like my pelvic floor has totally changed. Instead of having the same vagina that I did before she was born, it's like everything is sagging out of the opening a little bit - like pads of flesh kind of? I haven't seen my midwife about this, but I'm thinking of calling and asking her. Is this normal?

My daughter's birth was fast, but pretty normal. Her placenta was retained, and my midwife had to do a last minute manuever in which she manually removed it, so I would stop losing so much blood. Could this have caused my problem?

I'm kind of hoping it isn't anything serious. My MIL (who doesn't know anything about my issue) keeps going on about how cesaereans are the way to go to avoid pelvic floor problems, and how she wishes that she had c-sections with her babies .

If it's sagging from the top, that's your bladder, and it's called a cystocele.

If the posterior part of your vagina gets protrusions, or you have to put your hand in your vagina to keep stool from getting stuck, that's called a rectocele.

If your cervix is way down low, that's uterine prolapse.

HTH. I had surgery for all 3.

hi, we have a thread for this - pelvic organ prolapse. come join us over there. it does sound like you may have a bit of prolapse of one or more of your vaginal walls.
Schedule a follow up with your midwife to find out exactly what is going on.
good luck to you

and for the record, having c-sections does not spare one from having pelvic floor issues, and in fact can set you up for a whole host of other issues like lower back pain and decreased sensation in the pelvic/bladder/lower abdominal area.

i would absolutely choose my slightly saggy bladder and having a vaginal birth with dd over a possible "normal" pelvic floor but a c-section any day.

there are lots of things that can be done to help pelvic prolapse...take querico's invitation to join the POP thread, there are lots of us postpartum mamas over there.
