ok we follow the rule if its brown flush it down if its yellow let it mellow however i have always had the issue of a stinky toilet how can i deal with this and does anyone else have this problem? if it helps we use family cloth

I thought that sometimes it has to do with the mixing of different genders urine. I have boys and when it is just their urine sitting in the toilet, its fine, or just mine, but when it mixes it smells...

Except for 'the first pee' I am cool w/ yellow mellowing....the first one seems to smell more than the others

I'm smiling because I've been going through this same thought process... Since switching to family cloth... What a coincidence!

we use a modified version, and flush anywhere from the first wee (if it's big) to second or third. Depending on the weather, the colour of the water, etc.

i flush when stinky and like to flush at night, too. i wish dh would flush his toilet (which i don't often use) in the morning, but he doesn't always. then it sits and sometimes gets stinky at which point i flush.

How about you keep a cup of baking soda on the back of the toilet, and after people pee they throw in a pinch?

that might help however what im trying to say is it is always stinky even after it is flushed and no one uses it for a while. its like the toilet soaks up the smell and its a bad smell

Does the toilet have any cracks or divets in the toilet that might be 'holding' the smell? If it still stinks after being flushed, it sounds like it might be in need of a serious deep down, hands and knees cleaning to me. I'd probably use some tea tree oil to help with the smell as well. Works wonders in the diaper bag.

I'm sorry but could someone fill me in on family cloth? what is it and how does it work? It sounds interesting... Sorry no ideas on the stinky toilet.

family cloth is just like using cloth wipes for babies but adults use them instead of toilet paper, saves on paper. you can use many things to make it i use old clothes flannel and cotton work well i cut them to desired size sew 2 together and start wiping!

forgot to mention there are no cracks in the toilet and it is only 2 years old i had this same issue in my last home guess ill just conclude that i need to clean it more often maybe my only vinegar way is not working well enough for our family ill have to try tea tree oil

We do a Flylady thing and clean it every day with old shampoo! Smells way nice and cleans like a charm.

Mine smelt a bit iffy and during a really thorough clean I found out it was from urine lurking under the rim of the toilet. I had to really, really scrub to get it off, but now it smells much better.

I'd say someone's not getting every drop in the bowl. Our bathrooms used to smell really bad, to the point where my mom cleaned them EVERY DAY, until my dad moved out and then miraculously Mom could go back to once a week.

ok ladies i ended up cleaning the toilet and found that on the fround of the bowl of the toilet there was infact unine stains boy am i gonna get at dh for that!!!

anyway i think that was the issue usually when i clean the toilet i dont look for that stuff and just clean but when i did it this time i searched for the source. well then i was so grossed out i ended up scrubbing the whole b-room tub sink and floor. it needed it anyway but it was 9:15pm and there i was cleaning my b-room. then i did not want to waist the wash water so i proceded to do my kitchen floor. lol thanks mama's now my floors are clean too!
