*RANT* - Clorox

Is it just me or is the Clorox ad campaign evil? They're suggesting that you disinfect EVERYTHING your child ever touches, AND that you donate clorox products to your kids schools to "protect them from the germs that make them sick". Kids need germs, without exposure to germs kids have little to no immune system. This whole anti-bacterial/anti-germ obsession with our modern culture is going to be the end of us. My kid is going to eat dirt dammit!

I think of that too when I see those commercials, and I shook my head when I saw antibacterial wipes at several grocery stores for wiping handles and child seats in grocery carts. I may be a bit of a nazi though, I think it's stupid when people carry antibacterial hand sanitizers and use them all the damn time too.

Wash your hands at home, that should be enough, yeesh.

Hehehehe... that's so funny that you mention the wipes at the store. I never use them which many people find "gross" but I figure many people do and that will kill many of the germs but a few can sneak through to my kids to help them build a tolerance.

I should say though that most people who think not using the wipes is gross also think I'm wierd for letting my DCs fevers burn during the day if they aren't sky high and only medicate them at night so they can sleep better.

THEM: "OMG, she has a fever -- aren't you going to give her something?"
ME: "No, it's only 101 degrees so I'm going to let it burn out so it can kill the infection."
THEM: "Ummmm, Oh."

It's all about the almighty dollar, ain't it?

I will admit to using hand sanitizer sometimes. I have one of the little keychain ones on the diaper bag, I think I used it a few months ago at the zoo.

I will adnit to not worrying too much about germs though.

With all the stuff in the media about disease resistance and healthy immune systems, you'd think there would be more pressure on companies like Clorox to do their part helping the world to return to a healthy germy balance.

I have to say, I've never really understood the paranoia about shopping carts.

I hate how those commercials refer to the constant sanitation as a "healthier" home. I don't think so...

I have nothing against using hand sanitizer during cold and flu season if I am in public but I draw the line at sanitizing my floors. No one eats off of the floors here.

I saw another commercial the other day for Home Depot (I think) and the woman there said she wanted a washer that not only washes her clothes but sanitizes them, too. :

You ladies have some great company. I am a public health student, and I have heard similar rants from all my professors.
