Bah - had extreme luck with not natural product

What a sham, Spazzy.

Went to go get my haircut today. Shampoo/Condition/Cut. I don't mind getting shampood from time to time, no biggie. I have similar results with baking soda and conditioner if I do it the right way (diluted, I've been lazy and just mixing the condish and BS in my hand. Not too great long term).

Anyway, before realizing it, the guy put in some sort of styling lotion. I usually go home and wash all the goop out so I don't get sticky hair at night, but I was tired and I was like, "Ugh, I don't want to shower again." So I blow dried my hair as usual.

Omg. It looked great and full and of course, no frizz. No greasiness. My hair has been falling out even more than my usual anemia does because I had surgery and the anesthesia makes your hair fall out for a while. I called back my guy (I always get $15 cuts, BTW, my hair is too curly for any fancy salons ) and asked him what he used. It was Redken's Rewind Paste.

Pffft - I may have to go get some

I looked at the ingredients, I still have some products at home that has parabens and whatever at the very bottom of the list. I figure the exposure is so small it won't matter. SkinDeep says it's medium risk - but that site is kind of weird. Some of the chemical exposure stuff is odd - like it's talking about industrial exposure.

Is there something commercially available that is less of a toxic soup?

It might make your hair look great for a day, but long term, I'm sure it'll fry your hair! It has dimethicone in it! I used to use Redken's stuff, and that's exactly what happened. I avoid silicones like the plague.

I don't have curly hair, but I used to have super frizzy hair until I started no-pooing. Even now, my ends feel a bit dry, so I put a bit of shea butter on the ends (or olive or jojoba oil, whatever is handiest at the moment).

I really like my Kiss My Face Whenever conditioner - it has wheat proteins in it like the Redken stuff. I also got Trader Joe's SLS-free conditioner, and I like that too.

Yeah the wheat proteins really do seem to thicken up your hair and make it look full. I may try to find it and use it. Where do you get that stuff?

I think dimethicone is a water-based silicone so it rinses out easily (unlike the other types of silicones).

I forgot to mention, I have 2 different kinds of shampoos and conditioners and rotate them every week or 2 so that I don't get buildup. I mostly do the conditioner/BS combo, but I use shampoo maybe once every 10 days to 2 weeks or so.

ETA: We must've been posting at the same time! I got KMF at Vitamin Shoppe. Frontier Co-Op has them too. Drugstore.com has limited selections.

I have had goodl uck with Giovanni hair products I have gotten from Whole foods. They are paraben free and smell good I use the wax to spike my DSs hair. Also, I have tried the mouse for my curly hair and love it. It does not flake and that is very important to me as my hair is so dark it would show easily
They also sell it on Amazon.com
