Bella Marie Barrentine was born Monday July 30 at 3:35pm weighing 6lbs 6oz, 19 1/2" long.
I had been 5cm for a week and feeling very laborish. I started having more regular contractions Monday morning and though I didn't feel really close to giving birth, decided to head to the hospital around 1pm since we live so far. I was 8cm when I got there. I had wanted an all natural birth (well as much as can be in a hospital) but broke down and took some stadol, but only a small dose. I was doing great until at 9cm they broke my water, and then WHEW!! THE PAIN!! At that point I begged for an epidural and they were gonna let me have it, but the anestiesiologist (sp?) was in surgery and it was too late. I thought I was pushing FOREVER, but really it was only 3 contractions... maybe 10min total, and she was here! I musteve been really loud cause my throat was horse afterwards... the nurse said I was making weird gutteral noises, but I don't remember that. They tried to get me to lay on my back in typical hospital fashion, but I refused cause I was in so much pain I could not move. I gave birth sort of on my hands and knees sideways on the bed. Dh and 13mo ds were there. Ds was really interested in the birth... wide eyed and excited, not at all afraid of my screaming.
Bella is doing great. She's a voracious nurser and a "good" baby. I love her!
