Diva Cup, Keeper, or --? - Page 2

hated keeper, love my diva. Also love my gladrags.

Diva is not gross at all, at least no more gross than a tampon. Its soooo much easier and it can stay inserted longer. I will never use anything else and I use the glad rags on lite days.

Why did you hate the Keeper, if you don't mind my asking? I have friends who prefer Diva, but mostly because they think that the Keeper looks like a little plunger.

I feel it less than I ever felt a tampon. I agree with the woman who said that it might be nice for it to be *less* comfortable, since sometimes you can forget it's in there!

FWIW, since people asked about cloth backup, I also find slim cloth pads to be more comfortable than disposable pads. All-around, reusable products are just nicer. They smell less, they're more comfortable, and there's no waste. Plus, it is SO cool not to ever run out of stupplies, or have to remember to pick up tampons at the grocery store. It just occurred to me that I haven't bought tampons or pads in over 3 years.

Mess-wise, I don't think it's bad. On light days there's virtually no mess. On heavy days I sometimes do get a little blood on my fingers but that can be wiped off with TP and then washed off in the sink. I would sometimes have the same thing happen with tampons, so I don't think of that as a down side of a cup. On the rare occasion that I would have to dump it in a public restroom, I've never felt like there was a gross mess to deal with. I do think a cup is more discreet for public use than a pad or tampon - no "hey, everybody, I'm having my period!!!" rustling of paper or plastic in your stall. It's also nice to feel like you're doing your part to keep the stink down in the women's restroom, since you're not leaving smelly soiled menstrual products in that little garbage bin next to the toilet.

That's so true! I feel the same way about our cloth diapers.

This is my first my month and I can say that I do like it, but I'm not positive that I'm getting a good fit. I don't know if it's hitting my cervix...I feel like it's spasming. I thought the stem was going to bother me, that's not the problem so far.

Not sure if I'm imagining the right feeling, but when I've gotten a cervical "ouch" it usually means that I need to stick a finger up next to the cup and push the lip in a little to release some of the suction. It's like burping Tupperware. :

I have the Mooncup UK, and I love it! My period isn't painful anymore and it actually only takes 3 days now.

So does anyone know if frontier co-op still carries the diva. I was going to get one but I can't find it in their list?

The item number for the size 2 is 220603. I'm not sure about the size 1. They're $19.50.

I love my UK Mooncup too. I've never tried the Diva so I can't compare. I took a couple cycles for me to really be comfortable using it, but now there's no looking back to the tampon days!

what about storing the diva? what do you do with it when it's not in use?

I just keep it in the little fabric pouch is comes with in the bathroom cupboard. I just can't say enough good things about my Diva!

I have a Diva and I LOVE it! I'm like a walking advertisement for those things - turned my sister and two friends onto it. I chose the Diva over the Keeper because it's silicone and the shape just looked more comfortable. I had to cut the stem entirely off, but I still have no trouble removing it. I usually end up wearing tampons the first couple of days because I hate emptying it at work and I have a really heavy flow, but if I'm at home, I wear it from day one. I've been using it for about a year now and I could never go back to full-time disposable products.

Today's my first day of using the Diva Cup but so far, so good. It wasn't nearly as tricky to put in as I had anticipated (though spinning it after putting it in? huh? Couldn't do that). No leaks as of yet, and my flow is fairly heavy this early in my cycle.

You really do not need to rinse it every time. I have been using reusable cups for >8 years, while working outside the home, and I have a heavy enough flow that I typically empty it every time I use the bathroom during the first two days. Pour the contents into the toilet, wipe the outside with toilet paper, and put it back in. Remember that your flow is sterile until it gets into the air outside your body; it's not going to hurt you! I usually rinse the cup (wash with soap, too) just once a day, in the shower. I've never had a vaginal infection since I got it, and I've had urinary infections much less often than I did when I used tampons.

Abundant Life asked about using cloth pads outside the home. I've done that just a few times, since I prefer the cup, but it went all right: I put clean pads in a zippered nylon bag (intended for toothbrush etc. while traveling) and folded the used pads wet side in, snapped the wings to hold them folded, and put them in the same bag. I brought a plastic bag in case I had any pads so messy that they would leak when folded, but I never did. The pads stayed damp, so when I got home they were easy to rinse clean. If you start a new thread asking about cloth pads, you'll get lots more information!

In answer to Sensitive's questions: Usually, if you can feel it, either it's too low or it's not completely unfolded. You don't feel it otherwise; there are just not many nerves in the vagina past the first inch or so. Sitting leaning forward, or exercising, I sometimes feel it a little bit, but it's not painful or anything. I prefer to wear a pad when sleeping because it's possible for me to fill the cup overnight, but if I do the leakage is very slow--most times I've felt it and gotten up to empty the cup before even a drop of flow got all the way out of my body. It's far superior to tampons, which once they're full tend to leak in gushes!

Moon Keeper is silicone

I just wanted to correct some earlier info. The keeper now comes in a latex version or a silicone version. I think the silicone version is the mooncup keeper. It is shaped exactly like the latex version, but made of silicone (I originally thought it was the UK mooncup).

I haven't tried the diva, but used the latex keeper before this pregnancy and have been really happy with it. That said, I bought the silicone keeper in the after birth size just b/c I wanted to be able to sanitize it. It was also on sale for about $14 through the Frontier co-op a few months ago.

I wanted to add, that I don't usually feel my cup. But when it's very full, it get's a little heavy and I start to feel it a bit. This warns me that I had better empty it before it leaks

I love diva cup.

I Love my diva too. I've used it for 4 or 5 months now. I do have a question though. I noticed this month that my vaginal opening area was sore and a bit red. Sex was not comfortable for two days after the cup was out. I boil my diva at the beginning of each cycle. I empty and rinse with hot water only once a day. Except on the first day which I need to empty twice. I pretty much wear it all the time for about 5 days. My cycle is fairly light, but long. I've never had a yest infection or any kind of redness before so this is new to me. Does anyone know what might be the problem? What is your maintenance routine for your cup?

I had a Diva cup originally but now have the silicone Keeper and they are both amazing products I think I prefer the Keeper.
