Twins, polyhydraminos, or what is this?

My sis is pregnant with her first after having many years of severe endometriosis and uterine or ovarian cysts. She is 5'11" and usually only 120lbs, so very thin. She thinks she is only about a month along but her stomach is now measuring 35" around (I measured 40" at the end of my pregnancy). She hasn't been able to see a doc quite yet for insurance reasons. Many twins on her father's side. Could this be twins or is she growing so fast b/c of some abnormality like polyhydraminos or perhaps something to do with built up scar tissue or something? I didn't tell her much, just that it may be twins and that she should find a doc now instead of waiting.

So, she is only about 4-6 weeks then????

Can you palpate the uterus already?? Is it possible her dates are off?

We never measure women's circumfrence, just fundal height.

It's too early to tell - she has time to wait to see a doctor if she isn't having any other problems other than normal first of pregnancy nausea etc..

Yeah, I told her about the fundal height stuff and that she shouldn't worry if she isn't feeling bad. I'm just curious as to why she would blow up that way. I haven't seen her though so either her measurement was off or maybe, like you say, her due date is off.

Or gas. Along with all the lovely changes of early pregancy I had bloating horribly in the early part of the first trimester. Since I am thin and small framed, my belly was quite obvious pretty quickly. Then it nearly went away again when my bloating did before reurning when it was actually baby and not bloat!

That is true. And, all of our bodies are different and hold our pregnancies differently.

And, remember, even before the uterus pokes up above the pubic bone (around 12 weeks, usually), it is still growing, and everything above it (intestines) are getting pushed up as the uterus grows. So, often a woman will already feel/look bigger even before 10-12 weeks.
