really getting in under the wire here since our group is going into archives tomorrow! I haven't been on since before Greta's birth! Here's our birth story!

Friday (June 22nd) I noticed I was getting contractions that were stronger and more frequent. They went away Friday night but came back during the day on Saturday. Contractions started becoming more regular Saturday evening, coming about every 10 minutes. They continued through the night Saturday, being manageable, but waking me about every hour. Sunday morning they continued to be 7-10 minutes apart and I had the feeling this was the real thing. We took Elli to the mall at 10am to get some exercise indoors (too hot for me to walk around outside already). The more I walked around, the faster the contractions started coming. Around 11:15 they started coming every 3-5 minutes and were getting harder to manage. We got Elli down for her nap at home and my Mom came over around 1pm. We left for the Birth Center 20 minutes later. We forgot about the re-paving construction on I-40, but luckily it only took us about 10 minutes longer to make the drive. Lots of pain in my lower back during contractions.

Got to the Birth Center at 2pm. I was 5 cm dilated and 80% effaced. I was so happy all the contractions had been doing some work! Contractions got stronger and I got in the tub. The water really helped me relax through the contractions. My water broke not long after, but Greta was so far down, hardly any came out. I started feeling the urge to push soon after and the Midwife said I was almost ready to push (I was about 8 cm). The nurse arrived right as the Midwife said it was ok for me to push. I was too hot in the tub, so I got out (with lots of help!) and went to the bed. I couldn't believe how strong the urge to push was. Got on the bed on my hands and knees and started pushing. The midwife and our doula were great about getting me to push slowly. 15 minutes later Greta was born, just shy of 2 hours after getting to the Birth Center - and with NO tearing at all! She weighed 8lbs 11oz and was 21 1/2 inches long. She started nursing right away. I couldn't have asked for a better birth.

I couldn't believe how alert she was and how great I felt. Totally different than after Elli's birth. We went home four hours later and Elli happily greeted her new sister. She's been great with her sister and we are so excited to have two wonderful daughters!
