Bad bad bad bad wasp problem - Page 2

Mom has a new wasp deterrent that seems to be working out great!

She just blew up paper lunch bags like balloons and tied them to her railing (a plausible paper wasp nest spot) It hasn't stopped the wasps, but they have been diminished by 90%

I saw this thing sold on the Giaim site. It looks like fabric sewn up to look like a wasp nest. They say to hang several around your house. If this would work then how come when we leave the old/dead nests on the house we have more wasps still coming?

Could you just make a line around your whole property with those traps? Place one every 6 feet or so and that should help a ton

Wow, that is an insane amount of wasps/yellow jackets/whatever you want to call them! If you can't find and destroy the nests on your own I would call someone out to do it for you. And, also ask all your neighbours to look for nests as well.

A few years ago we had a really bad year for wasps. We couldn't even go outside without them swarming around us and stinging unprovoked. The following spring I went out daily armed with my trusty can of wasp killer and sprayed any queens and/or nests that were being started. I must've killed at least 30 of them just on our property (10 of them were in my van!: ). I spoke with my neighbours and they did the same thing. We now do it every spring and the number of wasps has drastically been reduced.

OMG. Unfortunately I looked at the picture

They are yellow jackets. I would do anything I had to to get rid of those little *^&#@^

Ours aren't too bad this year. Keep us posted.

We have dealt with everything from a hundred black wasp nests under our eaves in Costa Rica to a huge nest in our MN house to ground wasp nests. We never do wasp removal during the day because they are too active. Wait until night and they are back in the nest. For ground wasps we take a propane torch and let the hole fill with propane and then light it. Poof, no more wasps.
For nests under eaves or around play equipment, we use a shop vacuum to suck them up. Then plug the shop vac hose for a couple days. Always help to have a lot of dust already in the vac when you start sucking because it seems to kill them quicker.

Definitely talk to your neighbors and maybe organize a neighborhood sweep for bigger nests.
