late onset thumbsucking

dd gave up thumbsucking at about 13 months, nursed until age 3 (though she didn't self-wean -- she'd still be nursing at 5-1/2 if I let her), coslept, AP etc.......
and then, at 4-1/2, she took up thumbsucking again. i assumed it was because i was pregnant and we were nearing the delivery date, but i have a good friend whose dd just started thumbsucking at 4-1/2 and she's NOT pregnant.

what's up????? i assumed that if they gave it up as babies and nursed for a longish time it wouldn't happen. is this common? is it particularly common at this age?

very interesting, bc my dd who is 5, just recently started doiing this too. Not regularly or anything, but every once in a while I have noticed it, esp when shes relaxing on the couch. Now she never did this when she was younger, so I thought it was really strange. I haven't brought any attention to it.

it must be a thing for comfort. My sis sucked her thumb till she was an adult. Now that was a nightmare for her, very embarrassing.
