Ugh. One more thing for me to clean. At the rate of $0.00 per hour. I am SORRY but I don't think so. (I'm a bad person. A bad, bad person.)

Maybe they could bring one? Like they bring their own gatorade and peanut butter crackers?

I was pretty pissed when I was broke, the midwife was broke, and I was paying my school $1000 to keep track of paperwork for 3 months.

yep- still doing that for the most part- what I am getting paid is a license, eventually --
and I guess it depends on how hot it is here we have lots and lots of tile floors- very easy to clean ; ) throw a sheet on the floor and then be sure to get plenty of the chux down- and for the most part peroxide works wonders-- one woman who was going to move and was in a rental house with white carpets- labored around her house looking like a modern dancer--- well all of a sudden she stood up very straight and said my water broke-- well we were right near her and we didn't see anything so we just thought for a seconds and she moved into another room with tile- and then water came down her leg and hit the floor- she held it in because she did not want the carpet messed up- very wild who would have known-- in any case within moments while walking she dropped down into a squat and the baby was crowning ....

I usually suggest my clients have dropcloths for the floors anyway, so I'd certainly include that in a hotel birth list...and be more careful about using it *ALL THE TIME* (to protect mom, not the floor).

I agree, I've seen lots of births on the floor. LOTS AND LOTS of births on the floor. Beside the bed seems to be the most popular for me b/c mom is in bed trying to relax through those last few ctx when she's really tired and they're really hard and suddenly she's UP and HAS TO PUSH.

So often, it seems like pushing catches moms (multips, usually) by surprise - like they are on their way somewhere in a little break - the toilet, the bath, or from one of those places, and all of a sudden, whoa! Gotta get down to business.

Charmie, what kind of dropcloths aren't slippery?

I like the "neat sheet" or a vinyl tablecloth because they have a fabric texture that grips against the carpet.

I haven't had any issues with slickness with either of those options, but I remember a birth where they had waterproofed the bed with painters dropcloth under the sheets and mom had her legs on me, pushing with everything she had, and I was sliding off of the bed b/c of the dropcloth and couldn't get close enough to catch the baby .

we've used the flock backed table cloths upside down so you walk on the fabric surface-- keeps you from slipping around-- those big blue tarps aren't very slick they are somewhat textured---
