Homebirths!

We're planning our first homebirth. DD was born in a hospital and we want to do things differently even though it was no horror story. We're interviewing one midwife on Monday and I need to call and make an appointment with another one. I'm really excited about labouring in water and having dd be at the birth if she wants to be. She loves babies and I think she would love to see "her" baby come out. When I ask her where the baby is she always points to her tummy. She looks at me like I'm crazy if I tell her that he's really in my tummy!

My midwife has been picked since before I even got pregnant the first time, and meeting with her was wonderful. I called her today, Im hoping our insurance will cover some of it. Im all into homebirth, esp. since the hospitals here seem to be getting progressively whackier as time goes on.

I am totally psyched and pumped about finally getting a homebirth, my first! I live in the Netherlands now so a homebirth is 100% normal.

With my first 3 I lived in NC, and while there are homebirthing midwives there, the legal situation is such that I would have been super-stressed that something might go wrong, we'd have to transfer to the hospital, and our midwife would end up in court or worse.

This will be our second HBAC.

I love my midwife and will be seeing her for our first visit in mid-September.

Last time around I didn't use a birth pool, but really would like to this time. I think it would be fun to be able to have DD in the tub with me during the labor phase. I dunno if I'll birth in the pool or out - my gut says I'll probably want to get out of the pool.

We're planning a UCA4C.

homebirth here too. i haven't decided between hbac or ucab. i also haven't talked to my dh about it. most likely we'll go with a mw. i better get on that, huh?

Definitely. DD was born at home in California. This one will be born at home in the Netherlands.

I have a midwife in mind. She spoke at an AP day that I attended. Most of the midwives in the Netherlands operate in large practices where you get whoever is on-call when you go into labor (very much like obstetric practices in the US). My only past experience was in the US where homebirth is totally different and I really don't want that sort of practice. Based on my brief conversation with her at this AP day, it sounds like she practices like a US homebirth midwife, taking only four clients per month and really getting to know them, attending all her own births, etc.

Now I just have to book her! I haven't done that yet because I still haven't told DH because DD and I are currently away from him visiting my parents.

I've been planning my homebirth for 4 years! I'll likely use the midwife I see for my annuals/well-woman visits, and insurance will cover 70%.

I cannot wait for my homebirth- it is long anticipated.

Wow, we have two mommies in the Netherlands? That's gotta be unusual!

We're still trying to figure out the insurance situation with our preferred practice. It's all very confusing; the insurer has self-referral, but the practice says we have to be "in their group" to use them. So that may just mean I have to change my PCP (no big loss there), but it may mean that I can't use them and get covered, in which case, we'll probably opt for a homebirth. I wouldn't want a hospital birth anywhere else.

Last time I had a home birth "by accident". This time I am planning a home birth and getting a birthing tub here! I already contacted my midwife of choice who said she would be happy to come out to our house in the boonies. I looked in my insurance book and was worried because it said to use a lm I had to call for permission, but it looks like it is not a big deal.
I am so excited!!

I want a homebirth, but I've got to get my husband on board with it. I'm hoping the midwives that we meet on Tuesday assure him that homebirths are safe. I'm sure they'll convince him.

We are definitely doing a homebirth this time around. With my 1st we did a completely natural birthing center birth and it was great, but not what I wanted. Unfortunatly, we lived in poorly insulated apartments and I did not feel comfortable birthing at home. I'm looking forward to having the birthing experience I've always wanted this time around. That being said, our insurance company still hasn't gotten back in touch with me-but I feel confident they will cover a midwife and homebirth!

Definetly planning a HB this time. Was too young uneducated and scared by the mainstream last time. had a CNM who was bossed around by the OBs and kept threatening to take over and send me for a C/S. What a nightmare. Cytotek, Cervadil, Pitocin, and Epi. All Ways for the CNM to insist she was doing SOMETHING to keep the C/S crazed OBs away.....Now I know better! Was told by a rep my insurance would cover it as well! Happy Happy!

This will be my third (wow) homebirth!!!
I want to do a waterbirth again but don't know if we can afford it. Maybe if we use a horse watering trough we could?
Dh really thinks we should do a uc. Our midwife (I'm still interviewing because we've moved since my last birth) will be over an hour away and I don't know if I want to make the trips up (or down) for my prenatals. We talked about going to the midwife birth center but with my tendency to go over my dates, and since I've had two homebirths, we both decided I'll probably feel hassled. I just don't know about a uc. I'm so needy in labor and with two kids and no family around here I don't want to put more on dh's plate than he already has.
This being an unplanned pregnancy, and with me already plagued by severe morning (uh, all-day) sickness, everything seems so up in the air. I didn't see a midwife until I was about 15 wks with ds1 and 5 months with ds2 so I kind of feel I have time, kwim?

We're planning another homebirth. And Dd will be there if she wants. (She loves looking at photos of babies being born). I'm hoping to do it in water this time. We've interviewed one midwife and are looking to interview another.

Nice thing too is my fam. prac. dr. is supportive too.

Yay! This is my very first post on this site.

I'm due April 10th, and am planning my first homebirth. I have two dd's who were born in the hospital. They weren't terrible, but sadly, they were "normal". Meaning, I had torn or cut perineum's, pitocin, AROM, IV's, purple pushing, pain meds, seperation from baby, bf issues, etc.

I'm going to call my midwife tomorrow. I met her back in December, and she's awesome.

In the homebirth forum there is a birthpool sticky that mentions a kids fishy pool. I know several woman who have used one and loved it. They are pretty cheap, like $20.00 in my area.

Welcome Lullabymama! My first birth was similar to yours and this will be our first homebirth.

Thanks for the welcome! I usually post on Babycenter, so it'll be very refreshing to post over here during this pregnancy.

Go ahead and post my due date in the sticky. Thanks! It'll take me a while to get used to it here!

I recommend, for your own sanity, staying far from the likes of THAT place!
