Felt food

My DS wants to have a Spongebob birthday party next month so I thought it would be fun to make some felt food as the party favor the children can take home.
Here is my "crabby patty" that I made. I'm going to make all the burgers first, and then if I have enough time I will make fries to go with them.

The pictures are of my first burger so it is not perfect. I'm keeping it for my kids to play with and hopefully the party ones will be a little nicer. I've made several tomatoes since and I didn't do any seeds on them. I'm not too happy with the tomato in the picture. I've also experimented a bit with the embroidery on the tomato a bit and am now doing them with 4 triangularish shapes. I'll have to take more pictures when I sew them together. I also wanted some lighter colored felt to use on the underside of the bun but was unable to find the right color in stores and have decided that the kids really won't care.

The buns are stuffed with poly fil and have a cardboard circle on the inside to help keep them flat. The burger is also stuffed with poly fil. The lettuce and tomato have a single layer of low loft quilt batting in them.

I'm not a sewer and this is my first project in quite some time. I'm really enjoying it and already have ideas for other foods I am going to make once I am done with this project.

How fun! I especially love the way you embellished the patty. Is that yarn?

It looks great!. I think you can get a flatter bun (on the inside) If you insert a piece of cardboard directly next to the side you want flat, before you close and stuff. It might help the hamburger stack, but it's totally wonderful the way it is, too. I used this method for making doll feet flat on the bottom, so they can stand.

Yes, I used craft yarn. I ran the tips with a lighter so it wouldn't frayed and then sewed it down.

I actually did put cardboard on the inside of both buns. Do you mean on both sides of the bottom bun?

Oh, I took a closer look and saw that you did in fact put cardboard into the bun. It is the meat that is a bit on the puffy side. Yummm, fat burger!!!

ETA: The last 2 link weren't working for me, earlier but I just got a look- WOW your boy is so happy with the results of your efforts- just awesome how delighted he is! Bravo, mama!!

That's a way cooler party favor idea than the prepackaged plastic whistles & whatever else the spongebob enterprise would make for you I agree that he looks really happy with it, and the other kids will probably love it, too!
