removing duct tape "stickies"?

My father brought us up a dresser that my sister gave us for the new baby. In typical dad-like fashion, he duct taped it about a billion times to "keep the drawers in". (I dont know why he doesnt use rope : ) Anyways, any ideas on how to get the sticky stuff off that duct tape leaves behind? I tried rubbing alcohol and it didnt work. We have had about a dozen things ruined this way since I moved out of my parents house when I was 18, because he is in love with duct tape

There is a product called goo-gone that does it.

Lighter fluid will also take off stickies.

I had heard fingernail polish remover works well too. Try it in an inconspicuous area first though.

Fresh duct tape will do it. Make a circle of it, sticky side out, and pull off the adhesive gunk, just like removing lint from clothes. Duct tape also works to remove price tag and label gunk.

orange oil or goo gone

razor blade or baby oil

Ditto the above. We use goof-off or goo-gone. Check on the back first because it can remove paint and finish.

And next time tell dad that most people just remove the drawers before moving the dresser, and put them back in when the dresser is in its new destination. :

do not use fiungernail polish as suggested befor it will remove any paint or stain on it just as it would nail polish! --- goo gone works great and fast. there is also something at hardware stores too you could ask them i forget the name of it

thanks for all of the suggestions! I'll try the around the house stuff first and then start looking for goo-off if that doesnt work.

As for my dad... lol... he's just one of those people so set in their ways. If I told him not to use duct tape he'd decide not to bring it.

I use cooking oil spray, like pam. It contains lecithin which is what really helps to take it off.

Ok...before you try toxic solvents, try the duct tape! It won't dissolve and finish, or do anything other than pull the gunk off.

i do what zeldabee does, just apply fresh duct tape to the stickies and pull it up fast like taking lint off clothes. i do that all the time for getting tape/sticker residue off. you have to keep going over it, but it really does work.

orange oil, Pam, vegetable oil, baby oil, WD-40, Goo-Gone, Shout spray, hair conditioner....

I think that's it.

whoops, no, peanut butter! works on gum, too.
