Crazy stuff...

I'm cross-posting in Blended Family but it is kind of both: a teenage issue and blended family kind of issue...

To sum up:
DSD likes emo stuff (discussed here, and I read up on wikipedia to be up to date).
DP talked with DSD about what it means to her (she basically likes the music and clothes).
DSD does not wear vulgar t-shirts, rude and degrading sayings.
DSD wanted a new haircut: she called her mom to ask if it's to get a short choppy haircut, she didn't like the idea, but said "FINE".

Now... today we dropped DSD early because they had family function to attend, and ended up receiving a phone call from her mom who even used "F" word , along with many other colorful words... Over a "haircut"... she thinks we are ruining her daughter...

I still don't know what to make of it.. If she said yes, what's the issue? and is a haircut worth having your daughter moving out of your house? :
(I'm more than happy to have her here, just not seeing mom's point of view..)

Was the haircut really that bad?

Somthing like that

a bit longer in the front. (no color or highlights... I am honestly stunned at the reaction.. I thought it was unusual (not my style), but cute )

DSD did have medium length hair before. So it does look a lot different from what she had, but still acceptable...

That haircut is cute. Mom needs to get a grip

sounds like Mom has serious control issues. I don't see what the big deal is. It's not that far out there and it'll grow back! geesh

Were you privy to the conversation, or was this the interpretation DSD relayed to you? Is it possible her mom actually said no?

It's totally cute & age appropriate, alot of younger girls are cutting their hair short now. Another thing, Im really into Emo music, Im 34... & I wouldn't get all weirded out by what you read online about Emo culture.

mom might be scared to see her child dressing like the kids that are frightening and unaccessible, to her. it happens all the time with parents who are focused on the wrong things. and she's taking it out on you.

maybe it would help to point out the wonderful qualities about DSD to mom and just leave it at that. hair is just hair. It's NBD.
