Birth Bead Swap - Page 2

Count me in!

Is the second trimester swap something entirely different from the bead swap?
I agree with saving the beads for closer to the end, but I also don't want to wait too long, because I would love to have had my beads for a little while before hand.

bs"d

I looove swapping. I don't get to do it often since I moved to Australia, but I bet you'll put up with my international-um-ness since this is a DDC. Right?

In my last DDC, we didn't do a bead swap, but we did have a new baby gift/shower swap. Each participant listed likes, dislikes, needs for the new baby or mama, if baby is a boy, girl, or surprise, etc. and we were matched up and sent a gift near a certain dollar amount (I think it was $20ish). That was fun. Lots of people did handmade things, others picked out a few nice items, and some even send gift cards.

We could do a "For Mama" swap this tri, and a "For Baby" next tri???

That sounds great, Binah. I think because there's so many regular posters here outside NA- three Australians, one Brit and a couple of other Europeans- that it's going to be really hard to do anything in this DDC without sending internationally.

Shall I go and open a 2nd Tri swap down in the TP now, but leave signups open for a couple of weeks to let people get their post counts up if necessary?

ok, now I get the beads concept! I'd love to join in the fun. I think the suggestions of waiting until further along the journey are good ones too - something to wear while birthing, I like!

I couldn't get access to the page, I guess I am not qualified. Although I would love to participate.

i would love to do a birth bead swap. i agree with everyone on waiting until the 3rd tri. we're trying to get some bills paid off before the baby gets here, so i could afford some nicer beads in dec/jan.

Add me to those wanting to do a bead swap. I agree, though, closer towards the end. Maybe have them to the organizer by Thanksgiving, with the idea that we'll have them around Christmas/New Year's?

Is there any reason the swap can't be listed on our DDC page?

I know the mods wouldn't let us do that last time. If it's thru MDC, it has to be on the TP. Something about covering liability on their part, I think.

me too me too...i would love to do a bead swap

i would love to do this. just let me know what i have to do!!

I would like to join the bead swap. I was unable to participate in my last ddc's swap because it was too expensive for me that month. I will set aside some money so I can do this one.
I'm worried, because everyone's talking about setting aside money, how expensive are these beads??
There are some very nice bead shops where I live, so it could be as expensive or inexpensive as I wanted. I was thinking about picking up a pack of inexpensive wooden beads from Michaels and hand painting them or maybe making something from sculpy, though.

At my own birth, I would like to have something tangible and touchable from each of us and not exclude those who need to conserve money for themselves and their children.

If you're into thrift stores and garage sales, a necklace or bracelet might show up there that can be refashioned. You could even make beads out of salt-and-flour play-dough and paint them with temperas or colour them with food colouring in a pinch.

Just my two cents.

Yes, expensive is a matter of perspective. For me, for example, the $2.00 for a SASE alone will require a bit of financial juggling. I don't plan to spend more than $5 on beads... but I can see how it could *easily* be done. You could spend anywhere from $0-25 on beads for 25 people without much effort.

It's something to think about... but we'll need to know what kind of string the organizer is planning to use.

Ah, ok, thanks for the enlightening! I very much did not inherit my mom's ability to make crafts, knit, crochet, sew and do beaded things and whatnot! I know so little about it. I will do some bead hunting, but I know I'm not one for bead making, though it sounds kind of neat!

Should we bead swap through the yahoo group that flapjack set up for the 2nd tri swap as well? Might be easier if everyone signed up and went through that one route, avoiding those who can't join the TP or MDC rule violations.

I'm very excited to do this!

I am excited too, it is going to be so special to have this necklace, I am really looking forward to it!!

I think we're going to have to take the birth bead swap off MDC as well: if we assume that there's going to be at least ONE poster who didn't join until they got their BFP, then that's 7 months pregnant. And then we have people like Strawberryfields, due at the start of the month with a tendency to go early (and Eilonwy too, I think she said?) That doesn't leave much time. The yahoo group link is in the 2nd tri swap thread on the DDC, btw.
