Anyone using disposable dipes at the beginning? - Page 3

I looked into the diaper service here

the prefolds were only DSQ and not chinese prefolds...you still had to provide and wash all your covers

and they BLEACH them when they clean them.

it wasn't worth it to me-especially for the cost of $40-$50 a month. that was way more than my fitteds cost me.

I have to agree. It would need to be a green company and be cheap, cheap, cheap!

Man, I guess I'm spoiled. There is only one diaper company in our area, but they have a pretty impressive track record.

Since we're on the topic...

One of the daycare places I visited (the one I really like in every other respect but this one) said it was their policy to apply diaper cream at every single change, and that I had to provide the cream. Last night I spent HOURS trying to find a diaper cream that will not ruin cloth diapers. (I found ONE that might work.) Or I can try to talk them out of using cream every time. Or I can use disposables. Or I can use disposable diaper liners that I will have to fish out of every diaper before I wash them (not gonna happen). What do you guys think?

(my deepest apologies to the environment) I try hard to make it up in other ways (we are very green living.._ 'cept the dipes...) sometimes I have to prioritize issues and that one is not as hi as others on my list..
I didn't mean my comment as a judgement on your diapering choice...just offering my experience. :

The only big no-no that I've heard of for cloth is stuff with cod liver oil in it (Desitin). Our CDing daycare specified that we could use Desitin Creamy, which does not have the cod liver oil in it.

My absolute favorite diaper cream is Weleda Diaper Cream.

I found some info on diaper creams that are and are not okay with cloth here:

that sounds like an odd policy

but I use this - it is WAHM made and I know the mama personally.
I LOVE IT! and it also works really well if you have any heat/skin rubbing issues on yourself.

When were finially blessed again I will but a few dozen newborn sized prefolds and some bargin NB wraps but also mix in sposies. I can't justify the cost of eaither a whole stash of fancier DH friendly CDs or all sposies so for a while well use a bit of both till she/he grows better into our stash of onesize and covers that will last more than a week

I have soooo much to learn. It did not occur to me that diaper cream would ruin cloth diapers. aargh!

And DH is usually a dreamboat when it comes to laundry, he does it more than I do, but I'm imagining him looking at his first pooped upon cloth diaper, and the vision is hilarious. He will not be a fan of them at all.
At least if you're going to BF, the poo won't smell!
