Non-plastic, non-breakable cups??

I am looking for some cups for my toddler. I don't want plastic and since they are for a 2yo they should probably be unbreakable. I was kind of hoping for some kind of inexpensive ones that I could stack next to the sink so he could hop up and get some water himself. I kind of have those metal ones that are all different colors from the 50s in mind but I think those might be aluminum. Plus, I don't even know if they still make them.

Does anyone know if something like this exists??

What about some Corelle mugs?

Have you looked into enamel mugs/cups at all? We have one for DD that we bought at a camping store.

Campmor

Campmore has various stainless steel cups and mugs. I think the prices are around $5 but they would last forever.

They have some adorable aluminum cups at our marshalls, they come with 3-4 cups in each pack..they say 60's retro or something like that. I posted about their safety but never got a response so i didnt buy them. They are so cute though.

Corelle can be breakable if you're not a little careful, especially if it's older or if your floors are tile or similar.

Given your parameters, I'd be looking for enamelled metal cups.

I've never liked the flavor of drinks in those aluminum cups and glasses.

I am pretty sure you should not use aluminum cups. There was a health problem with aluminum cutlery and pots in early 20th century. Don't know details, but something rings a bell. You could probably research it online.

No good suggestions, really, but a note about the enamalled cups-- we bought a few for dd (fairly pricey), and in not too long they all had chips inside that made them unusable. When they get dented, the enamal cracks and chips off. I was sad. They are cute, and impermeable otherwise. I think they'd work if you controlled the area they could be used in and didn't let them be carried out onto the sidewalk, or the tile bathroom floor. I wanted something dd could carry around with her water, so I've fallen back on plastic. Sigh.

We have some stainless steel camping mugs. I prefer them to enamel ones as they don't chip.

We do have a few of the enamel ones and have had the same chipping problem. They are so perfect otherwise.

The stainless steel camping cups - are those the sierra cups?? I was wondering if the narrower base causes a problem for little hands. I was kind of hoping to get something I could stack up together and leave them sitting next to the sink for ds to get himself.

And when Corelle breaks, it becomes hundreds of horrible little shards that fly far away. I have Corelle dishes, but when they break, they are much worse than glass or stoneware.

Are they safe once they chip?

For home I bought complete sets of enameled dishes. They were from a small local store so I may have been able to get them less expensive online. (two sets were $65: plate, mug, small bowl, and tureen) My dd decided to bang the mug against the bowl and it chipped in several places. (All on the outside so I still use them.)

When we are on the go we use the Klean Kanteen sippy cups - they do have a plastic spout. My husband and I use the water bottles. IMO they do leave a slight metal taste in the water - my husband and the kids don’t notice.

We also have plastic plates and cups but I am trying to eliminate plastic. I thought I saw enameled dishes at Target but when I went back to buy them I couldn’t find them – I’ll check the camping section as a pp mentioned.

I use my Klean Kanteen water bottle constantly and don't notice a metallic taste either.

We use KK for out and about and glass for at home. However, my DD is more prone to breaking glass than DS was so I bought her an enamel cup from the Target dollar spot a few weeks ago. I've been hoping to run across something better and found these, but unfortunately they're in the UK so shipping and the poor USD exchange would make them pretty $$$

I e-mailed the company to find out if they could supply the mfr info so I can try to find them more local. Will post back if I hear anything.

Mine chipped on the inside as well-- I'm sure I would have kept using them if it had just been on the outside.
