Bedrest support

I think only Lindsey and I are on bedrest right now, but I thought I'd create this thread for us and anyone else who might need it later.

Lindsey, how are you doing mama? I'm okay. My husband got me a laptop which is great. I am feeling really guilty though about my toddler. We just stay at home all day. I try to play with him and make his day varied, but I think he's so bored. Luckily Daddy takes him to the park every evening, but the days sure are hard.

I wanted to ask you have you ever heard of sidelines? I think it's sidelines.org. They match you up with a phone buddy to help support you on bedrest. I never did it my last pg, but I might this time.

Tell me how you're feeling and doing!

I was on bedrest for the end of my last pregnancy...and was essentially bedridden for the first 4 months of all 3 pregnancies! It's really rough, especially when you have little kids to care for.

Sidelines was great for me.

You are both in my thoughts. Take gentle care of yourselves, Mamas.

Well I had my time on bed rest already and do not want to go back. Though honestly I can not be up out of bed for more then a handful of hours without passing out or near it and getting sick. My laptop in bed has been a life saver. I wish all of the mamas on bed rest sanity, tea, and good books!

The guilt can be shoved aside, it has no place.

Katherine! I was wondering how you were doing, too, mama. That's wonderful about DH getting you the laptop. I understand the guilt thing with your DS.

I'm so very lucky to have family close by and that they have the time to come help us. My MIL comes 2x a week, my aunt comes 2x a week, and my SIL comes 1 day. They help with cooking, cleaning, and playing with the kids. I don't know how we'll ever repay them for it all.

What are your bedrest restrictions, Katherine? My instructions are to stay off my feet and rest as much as possible. Not entirely clear, but she did say I'd need to have help with cleaning, shopping, etc. So I do get up and do a few things, but not nearly as much as I'd like to be able to do.

I go in for another cervical check Friday. I'm just praying it hasn't gone down anymore.

I've been thinking about you too!! I'm so glad you have family to come help out. That's so great.
have pretty much the same restrictions as you. And they are not very clear either. Kind of frustrating isn't it? My OB was pretty clear that I'm not to leave the house though.
My cervix is down to 2.0, but I do have a cerclage this time. Please post back on Friday so I know what's up. Do you have to get the transvaginal u/s to measure? I kind of worry about that, they check me that way twice a month.

I'll be thinking of you and your family.

They do the transvaginal u/s to check mine, and the first time it was 35mm, and this last time it was 21mm, so pretty close to yours.

I see my family practice doc in addition to a perinatologist. I'll see my FP doc tomorrow and get to talk with him about all this bedrest stuff and what exactly I should and shouldn't be doing, as the peri ordered it and my instructions are that clear. Though it does say "no walking" , I assume that means no going for walks, etc. *sigh* I was so shocked when she told me "bedrest" that I couldn't even think of what to ask her, so I will be asking him (FP doc) tomorrow.

s, mama!

I did 7 weeks of bedrest last time. IIRC, they said I could be on my feet long enough to take a shower or make myself lunch, but not much more than that. Shopping was a big no-no. I'd imagine just going out for a walk would be too. But every case is different, never hurts to ask the docs what exactly you can and can't do.

Thus far, I'm officially just on minor activity restrictions this time. "No mowing the lawn or strenuous exercise or things like that" the peri said. But I may end up joining you all on the bedrest crew before it's all over. It's pretty much a wait and see game right now.

My biggest suggestion, other than the laptop, is take up a craft or hobby you can do in bed. Knitting, crocheting, crossword puzzles, maybe a computer game. Oh, and we ended up putting dd in part time daycare last time, which, thankfully she LOVED. Just a couple days a week. I know that's not feasible for everyone though.

OH my, many hugs to you ladies on BR.. I am SO thankful I can be active.. I would be really in a BAD spot if I had to be off my feet.. yikes..

School's coming up and there's laundry and dishes and boys' activities and preparing food and if I end up on bedrest.. ohmygosh, the family would crumble.

HUGS to everyone!!

Update!

Trans-vag ultrasound this afternoon measured my cervix at 24mm (it was 21mm 2 weeks ago). She said the bedrest was obviously helping! She told me to continue doing what I'm doing. I go back in 3 weeks for growth scan of the babies and another cervical check.

Wondering how you're doing, Katherine!

I am sorry, mamas, that you have to be on bedrest but whatever is good for the babies...

I have a question, because my doctor suspects I may be on bedrest eventually. Can you get up regularly to use the bathroom, let your dogs out, etc? I see you can get up at times for short periods... what about stairs? I am sorry to ask foolish questions but I honestly am clueless.

Hi Maisiedotes,

There are different levels of bedrest--your doctor should tell you what category you would fit into. During my last pg, I was on strict bedrest. Up for bathroom only, plus showers twice a week. I was served meals in bed. No sitting up even to eat. Now I have a cerclage and I'm on "light bedrest," which basically means try to lay down whenever you can and try not to pick the baby up, and no outings. I hope you don't have to have bed rest.

Hi Lindsey!!! What terrific news that your cervix has lengthened. I am SO so very happy for you!!! And it must be gratifying to know that what you're doing is really working.

Not much news here since last time. I have an app't on Thursday so I'll update you then. Until then keep those sweet : : baking in there. Take care.
