Outdoor Activities

DH, FIL and I played 9 holes of golf Saturday. It felt great (all that fresh air and exercise), but it didn't improve my game at all!

Sunday we went tubing down the Wenatchee River. Yee-ha!

What outdoor activities have you other mommas been doing lately? What activities do you WISH you could do but just can't (or don't feel up to)?

If it weren't so darn hot, we'd probably do a lot of things. But it is about 100 degrees here in southern Ohio.

I still workout at the gym nearly everyday but we're not really doing anything outside at all. DD will be lucky if I feel up to sitting in the baby pool with her this afternoon. These high temps are draining.

But if the weather would cooperate I'd so be doing what you're doing!!! Golfing, hiking, biking, etc. We are outdoorsy type of people and like to be active.

I just think activity is key to a healthy pregnancy, L & D, and PP.

Gosh, outside? This time of year? It's still bumping 110 even with thunderclouds on the horizon. i don't even want to go on walks in the morning or after the sun sets!

If it were just me and DH, I'd opt to go tubing down the river or camping or at least hit up one of the water parks but I just couldn't see DS enjoying it or us staying sane keeping him safe the whole time.

When I was PG with Titus, my brother was visiting from Oregon on his way to move to Norway and get married... we decided to have a last big hoo-ra and went to the waterpark while I was 5 months pregnant. I went down waterslides galore, played int he wave pool and floated around the Lazy River... even braved the lilly pad obstacle course! It was a blast and quite doable pregnant.

The heat index in central NC hit 110 today. the only outdoor activities I'm participating in involve walking from one air conditioned place to another. (although I will hit the outdoor pool at some point today...)

We're camping on the beach at Assateague National Seashore tomorrow thru Sunday.

I'm excited...but, hoping I won't melt.

We've been in a hotel for the past couple of nights and I've been miserable after short walks outside.

The only comfortable thing to do is go to the pool. It's far too hot to do anything else outside right now. The heat index is 110-115 degrees right now. Once it starts to cool a bit, we tend to walk just about everywhere we need to go on post and we go to the playground/park just about every afternoon/evening.

Really!? I just assumed the staff wouldn't allow a visibly pregnant woman to go down the slides, so I actually nixed a visit to a waterpark recently because I thought I couldn't do anything. How stupid was that?

I'm sorry to hear it's hot everywhere. It's high nineties where I live, over 100 some days but not all. I was in Palm Springs a couple weekends ago though, and that was AWFUL. 113 degrees is NOT my thing. Especially when the beautiful, refreshing-looking blue pool water is actually about 90 degrees. NOT a pleasant swim.

We went to the Wisconsin Dells last weekend but I didn't slided even the tamest slide that babies and parents were going on for fear I would do harm and because I doubted they would have let me on it anyway- I look like I"m about to give birth any day now!

I'm all for being active and I think you should do what your body tells you it's okay to do (I was able to do a lot more in my first preg than this one, for example and felt comfortable with a lot more.) But this time I'm very much, "Better safe than sorry" mentality because I don't think my body is wanting that much activity.

We went to a waterpark just a few weeks ago. I'm definitely noticeably pregnant, especially in a bathing suit. There were warnings posted on all the waterslides advising against pregnant women going down them, but I did several of them anyway. I didn't do the 2 most bumpy/fast ones though. The ones I did were tame enough that small children could go down with parents. Nobody said anything to me. I will say that my tailbone hurt for days afterwards as a result of all the watersliding, but it was fun. And I got quite a few braxton-hicks, but nothing out of the ordinary.

I miss hiking! My goal this summer was to reach the other side of a local mountain and I haven't even been ON the mountain again. And we haven't done any camping (with me) this year because I can't possibly sleep in a tent. I miss gardening and the weeds are taller than my plants and flowers!! And I miss going for walks by the water or to the parks because I am sore, tired, or chained to the toilet. *sigh*

I can feel it now, next spring is going to feel like a re-birth I think. As soon as the smells and birds and sunshine hit, I am going to be SO outside. I hope!!

Thankfully I live in a much better climate now, so winter won't feel so depressing. Last year I was so amused that on Christmas, people had their decorations up, but many people still had pumpkins out and the trees were still losing leaves. I was so used to a massive drop of leaves and temperature, pumpkins rotting and Christmas being barren or white. I believe I still had some fall flowers in bloom at Christmas time.

The heat index here was 105-110 today, too. Supposed to be like that all week! Our county fair is going on right now, and since DH is self-employed, we usually go to a few of the livestock sales and buy some animals to support 4-H and give the business a little advertising.

Now, since I'm supposed to stay off my feet, I think I can go sit for an hour or so at a sale. But I'm not sure what my body is going to think of the heat. So we'll see.

does sitting in the baby pool submerged up to my neck count as an outdoor "activity" ?? hot and humid here.. ack.. I haven't done much outside in the past two weeks, except go to the pool and to the parka couple times in teh eve.. also ahve been CRAZY busy with little to no "fun kid time" with evan.. poor kid..

Pfft, staff schmaff... a bunch of teenagers on summer break!!!

The biggest worry (IMO) is water going at high speeds up your hoo-ha. I wend down one of the speed slides and hit my head because I didn't putmy hands up like I was supposed to. The windy, twisty ones are the best!

No outside for me either - not only is it in the 100s heat index wise, but we've been coding orange on ozone and particulates off and on. Since I've got asthma, that means no outside for me. Fortunately the weather is supposed to break this weekend and we are headed to the beach for the week - so I'll be outside lots next week and make up for it!

NO outside time here either (baltimore). With the heat index at 105-110 the air quality is crap...but on Saturday we head to northern Ontario for two weeks. I am so excited! We'll be hiking, paddling, camping! It better be cooler up there or I'll be one hot dog

Nothing. I am so sick of this heat. Today the high is 100 degrees (and it's Virginia so you know it's humid too) and the heat index will reach 110. I can't even go to the store without breaking a sweat in the parking lot.

I literally thanked God last night that we have AC.

Poor DD stuck inside. I can't wait for fall!

I went mini golfing and thought I was going to die. So, now I am not doing anything outside that does not involve water. So, we have been to the pool, beach and water park. I did go down all of the slides for kids and had a blast. I also went down one tube ride and while it was fun, I won't go on it again since I had a fear I would tip over.

I haven't done much because I've been busy lately, but tomorrow is "Fun Day" at my job and we're going here: http://www.mohonk.com/

I'm going to swim in the lake and do a nature hike. I might do more hiking too, depending on how hot it is. I'm very excited! I'm just sad DP can't come because he has to work.

We went to Mexico almost a month ago and swam and snorkeled and went to Chichen Itza, but I've pretty much been at work since we got back. We do try to have dinner in the park once or twice a week when they have free concerts, but lately we keep getting rained out.

I never went to Mohonk but I used to live near there. I loved the Hudson Valley and New Paltz was a favorite of mine. We used to hike in the nearby Catskills too.

I believe Mohonk is a hang-out for Stephen King too. Or was at one time. That one or another nearby resort with an M name. Anyway, staff says they find him sitting in dark hallways in the middle of the night. I heard one of his books was based on the resort somehow.
