You are so on top of things! Which pool are you going to order? I've been prowling the internet trying to decide what's best...I've pretty much narrowed it down to this one. http://www.waterbirth.org/mc/page.do?sitePageId=45085 That is, unless you've found a better one!

I ordered this one. There's a great thread in the homebirth forum with all kinds of links and recommendations. I basically ordered exactly what they recommend in that thread! The hose and pump and all came to about $30. The pool was $18 and since I hated being in the water with my last birth, I didn't want to spend a ton in case that happens again.

Plus, when DH told his brother early on that we were thinking about a homebirth, BIL joked about me giving birth in a kiddie pool on the kitchen floor- So I love that I may very well do just that!

The birth kit came with two itsy bitsy teeny weeny little hats!

ETA: I ordered everything now because the MW wants it all to be in place at the 34 week visit when she comes here, and I've got a crazy few weeks coming up so I wanted to spread out the ordering and spending! I still have to go buy the rest of the recommended "stuff" my MW wants me to get- towels and shower curtain and whatnot.

Yay! Congrats. I haven't started on any of that, partly because I'm still waiting for clearance with this darn low-lying placenta. It had moved at my last u/s, but not enough, so they want to check it again at 34-36 weeks. is that going to be too late to order all of this stuff?

Isaac's Ma, I'm going for the Birth Pool in a Box too! I love the handles. I want the big one, so DP can get in with me.

36 weeks could possibly be too late if it's stuff you *have* to have. It would be a bummer to have to "make do" although women have been giving birth for thousands of years without all that stuff...Could you order it and return it if you don't need it?

I am pretty set on the Birth Pool in a Box b/c I'm 5'9" and I don't think the water on the fishy pool would be deep enough. I like your idea about your DP getting in too...

Aren't those hats the cutest?!
I thought about the fishy pool (what a good deal!) but I think I'm too tall and right now I'm thinking that I'll want to be in the water a lot. Of course we'll see how I actually feel when I'm in labor!

Yeah- I am only 5'4" and there is NO way DH will get in the pool with me, so I think this one will work well. The Birth Pool in a Box looks awesome though!!!

Just curious why you didn't like being in the water so much with your last birth?

I have no idea- I was so looking forward to it! I was in the hospital, so the tub wasn't very large, and it was hard- I'm sure that had a lot to do with it. But it did have jets and the whole thing- water, jets, hard surfaces just made me want to crawl out of my skin. I was having slight back labor- DD was just turned a little funny, so maybe that had something to do with it. I couldn't stand any kind of recline, on my back or on my side, and the tub floor was too hard to kneel on. Which reminds me I need to get a blanket to fold under the pool in case the inflated bottom isn't enough.

: I want to get mail that isn't bills! How fun for you all- I always think if I tried a homebirth the baby would be so covered in dog hair within 2 minutes of being born, she would look exactly like DH!...

I got mine the other day too. But I still have a whole list from the midwife of things I need to collect that doesn't come in the kit.

No tub here since my midwives don't do waterbirths and I didn't want to spend money for only labor. We are too poor for that lol

I love all the birthing pools...my MW said we could use my tub, since it's bigger than most are (wider anyhow) but that's a good point about the bottom being kind of hard for sitting or kneeling on. Not sure what we'll do yet, I'm liking the look of the birth pool in a box.

Leigh, what's in your birthing kit? Do I need to order one? MW didn't say anything about it, but it's in her paperwork that the "birth kit" (whatever that is) isn't included in her fee. What does that mean? I forgot to ask. I had so many questions as it was (we just met for the first time yesterday)

This is so exciting!

I ordered mine from here:

My midwives have a pre-made package (it's the Madison Birth Center). Did I mention the teeny tiny hats??

Oh my! We're getting close aren't we? That pool in a box looks cool.

I don't know that my DH would EVER go for a homebirth, but if he did, we'd definitely be getting some kind of pool!

See, that's what I want to order, but I worry. I know ALL these other moms like these pools, but my luck is it would be the wrong decision and my hubby and MWs will give me guff about it. I am supposed to be renting one from them for $150. Well that was before our finances hit the skids!!
