Well it looks like I get to quit my job anyway - Page 2

Yes, try the tribal area...that's how I found my midwife at five months pregnant, just last week! Good luck!

I second the suggestion to try your local tribe... a lot of doulas seem to be not easily locatable online.

Don't know what you've tried on-line, but here are a few other places that might yield potential contacts...

ttp://www.childbirthsolutions.com/doulafinder/show.php?city=XX&state=DE&country=US

http://dolphin.upenn.edu/~doulas/ (I don't know where in DE you are, but they say they serve DE...)

Wish I could help more. Hang in there...

Oh, Beckula, THis sucks. I am sorry your HB seems impossible now. Where are you in Delaware? I'm in Baltimore and there are some local MWs who might travel to DE, depending on where...Please post in the FYT Forum because there are a lot of knowledgeable mamas in our area who might be able to help you. I am so sorry you are dealing with this right now.

Well that just sucks big butt. I am SO SO SORRY! The only positive thing I can think of is that thankfully you found this out now and not at the very end so you can try to have everything in place.

Oh that stinks :

I will try the local tribal area. I live in Sussex County in Rehoboth beach and I could barely afford to pay the midwife i had. I had to get a part time job and I would have had to work until the 8th month in order to pay her fee which was $2000. If my brother-in-law hadn't given me the $500 deposit (so i only had to come up with $1500) i never would have been able to afford it. I don't think i can afford to start over much less get a midwife to come from out of state. I'm also not sure that it would be such a good idea since A.) in the past 2 months the birthing climate has changed and the state is actively prosecuting Midwives that they catch attending home births. B.) I live in an apartment complex that puts us in close association to my neighbors (like I can hear the Lady upstairs sneezing right now) and I'm afraid that they will call the cops. C.) I can't afford to pay someone for the expense of traveling at least an Hour and a half to my home.

I spent six months trying to find a midwife who would attend a home VBAC and that i could afford in my area. i literally started looking about 3 months before I conceived. This was my only option. I'm honestly not sure that i have the energy to go through with it again with this pregnancy and I'm pretty sure that there aren't any more options for me. Hopefully i'll get my VBAC so i try this again hopefully in a different state.

Becky,
I just had an idea! Since you're planning on driving 1.5 hours to Newark, why not drive to Annapolis and have your baby at Special Beginnings? I think the drive would be about the same. There's also another birth center near Annapolis but I can't remember the name...I'm also not sure about the VBAC policy at either place but I've talked to a couple people IRL who had really good experiences at SB... and they take ins. (of course depending on what kind/if you have it...) I know you're feeling REALLY frustrated by the situation at this point, but I thought this might be looking into.

ETA: Found the website of the other BC: http://www.bayareamidwifery.com/index.html

At this point, who could blame you for feeling so beaten and ready to give up! You've done quite enough I think. Good luck, mama.

P.S. If you ever are in another state (like mine) you may just find a great midwife, even after two c/s, so don't fret that. Just try to get through this one intact!

Could your HB MW act as doula/labor support for you in the hospital (for a smaller fee)? I know my MW does both... maybe then you still have her support, assuming you've been building an awesome relationship with her, and can more easily/peacefully have your VBAC...

Best wishes mama! You can still do this! (((HUGS)))

Her assistant is a Doula and i will talk to her when she gets back from out of town next week. Though I might have to give birth in the same hospital which i didn't want to do, if I show up at the last minute I should be fine I think.

i'm so sorry, becki. i really, really feel for you. (weirdly my friend just found out the same thing today, but she's in iowa.) there are some good suggestions on the thread and i hope one of them helps you get closer to the birth you want.

xo.
