My baby is usually active at certain times of the day and then he quiets down for a bit. But right now he's been actively moving around quite a bit for the last 3 hours!! That seems like so long! Could this mean he's in distress? Could he be changing positions? Could it mean labor is near? He seems to have dropped because I'm feeling tons of pressure on my cervix. I'm a little worried about all the activity though since it doesn't normally happen for so long. I'm 40weeks2 days.

I'm not sure...I know my baby has been having lots more very regular busy times. Right around dinner time, through the evening, she kicks like CRAZY. I swore she flipped around again(I have a really roomy pelvis), and I think she is back to vertex, but Man, some really big, uncomfortable movements. And it seems to go on for a long time, probably not 3 hours, but about 2 for sure.

My baby seemed like he was continually active until the morning he was born. In fact, he calmed down so much that morning that I was a little freaked out, so I guess its the opposite of your problem.
I've always been told that movement is good because it indicates a healthy baby.

I feel like I have a really active baby. Not for three hours straight but lots of big movements. I always wonder what's going on in there! He's more active if I've had sugar or heaven forbid... a sip of coke. (I know it's not good for me but sometimes I just cannot resist!)
My ds was the same way. He was moving around even when I was in labor. He actually broke my water himself. I was lying on my side in the tub and I felt him kick (?) against the bottom of the tub suddenly and that's when my water popped.
Whatever is causing your babe to be so active... changing positions or whatever... I do not think it's because he's in distress. I've always heard the opposite. Of course... I'm no expert.

I actually JUST spoke to my midwife today about this! Baby boy has become the most wiggly baby ever over the past 5 days (just moving, moving, pretty much nonstop). Midwife said he was probably just working his way down and that all was well. Of course she also said that it did NOT mean I was about to go into labor (as a first time momma, she wanted to be sure I knew that it was common for babies to drop 2 weeks before labor). Bummer.

Yeah my babe has been running laps around my uterus. I woke up at 3 last night and thought, "What, I don't have to pee. Why am I awake." I then noticed the crazy movement and within moments, I had to pee.
My little one dropped forever ago. Baby has been in station -1 for pretty much months now. It made it nice b/c I have yet to get a kick in the ribs (knock on wood), but I do get those oh so pleasant cervix punches and head butts.

Well he has been really active for the past couple of days but today, not much movement. Hmmm, I wonder if this means something. I sure hope so!

my son is VERY active too. Though he always seems to settle when his aunts are around - and makes me look like a big liar.
I asked the MW earlier this week if there is ever a need to be concerned about "too much movement" and she giggled and told me he's just fine.
He dropped late last week, and has been consistantly trying to stretch in all directions ever since. I think he is ready to come out for some really good stretching...
The best part about all the activity is that he'll push - we (me or dh) push back - and after a brief pause he'll push back again. He's so alert - I just can't wait to hold him and get to know him.
Not much longer now!
