going insane

my 2yo ds is driving me crazy right now. he's been staying up late and sleeping in later and later each day. so yesterday when he woke up at almost 10:30 I decided to have him not nap and go to bed early. 8pm i take him for a walk hoping he'll fall asleep. no. 8:30 we're back home, he spends a few minutes with dh, cries through an unsuccessful trip to the potty and a book. i take over, give him quick 'memes' then it's lights out and we lay down. from then till 9:30 he wiggles and wiggles, finally asks for dh to take him potty. he's soaked, but does poop in the potty. he goes to sleep pretty quick after this. 10pm my exhausted self finally gets to sleep (it took 2 hours to get him asleep : ). fast forward to 2 am, ds wakes up crying (why? why?) drinks some water, gets some teething medicine, then falls asleep on my pillow. i wait awhile, then get up to pee. he of course wakes up, i get him back to sleep. it's now 3:15 am i can't sleep, ds seems to be really out this time. so i get up to eat a snack. don't even finish making it before i hear him wake up. i'm so frustrated i tell dh to 'deal with him' and sit down to eat and log on to mdc.

it's now 3:45 and ds has done nothing but cry for the last half hour. i feel like screaming myself. but instead i guess i have to go back in there and get ds to sleep.

now for the vent, ignore any name calling-
WHY WON'T THIS STUPID KID SLEEP!!!!???? HE'S EXHAUSTED, I'M EXHAUSTED! I JUST WANTED TO GO TO BED EARLY!!! I WANT TO SCREAM AND YELL AND STOMP MY FEET!!!! GO! TO! SLEEP! AAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!

Oh my goodness, what a night! I hope you both get some sleep soon, lady. Maybe you could get someone to babysit or take him out somewhere for a while so you can have a spell to yourself? I would do it for you if I could Hang in there!

Oh, mama, I know where you're coming from!! And then for me the fear sets in...if I can't handle this now, how will it be with a newborn on top of it??!??!?

Hugs, hope it gets better soon. Are there any quiet activities he likes to do (like watching movies) that would give you a chance to rest during the day? During my second pregnancy I gave up on trying to always be awake when my child was : I just had everything childproofed, locked, and got much needed rest.

Oh, and by the way, I was ready to pay for someone to take my kids off my hands the last couple of days...and thankfully they went for a sleepover at my sisters last night. The best thing to come out of my divorce is that the girls are comfy going other places for a night or two...and I sure need that at times!

:

I have been napping the last two days, actually took 2 naps the day before yesterday. I am just too dang tired. I seriously would be nodding off on the couch anyway. So we put on a movie, I lay in the living room, so if anything major happens I am right there, and still can sort of hear stuff happening, and I rest. They would much rather have me rested these days, trust me!!

I hope you can get some sleep mama, can you take a nap with him during the day? I always lay down with my 2.5 yr old now because I really need the rest.
Other than that...many, many s to you!!

well ds went to sleep quick once i went in there, and i konked out pretty quick myself and sleeped like a log till 9am when the phone rang. unfortunately, he wouldn't take a nap today. who knows why. but he went to sleep pretty easy tonight (aprox 30 minutes after we got home from a friends house). the only reason i'm still awake is dh and i were talking and then i had to get up for a snack cause i was suddenly starving! now that i'm done, i'm off to bed...

Last night must have been one of those nights for toddlers... my 16 month old DS had a rough night too. He went to sleep around 11pm, I only got to sleep around 2am (talking to DH, then playing with our new kittens!), only to have DS wake up screaming at 4am... thanks to Baby Einstein he eventually went back to sleep, but would ONLY sleep cradled in my arms, which was uncomfortable as hell for me... so after around 5am, I finally fall back asleep... until 7:30am when he wakes up.

Today I had to go to my midwife appointment, which meant leaving at 9:30am, and getting home at 5pm (sucks having a midwife 3 hours away!), so I didn't get a nap. I was looking forward to an early night... and here it is 11:30pm and he's wide awake.

Don't these toddlers understand that their mommy's need sleep?!?! I guess that would be asking too much.
