Baby=bottle to so many (local radio DJ story) - Page 2

I have been in so many of those situations. "Oh the baby needs his bubba, Oh a bottle will make him happy, Oh he doesn't take a bottle, you poor thing, Oh do you want me to get his binky for you? And as always I say he has never had a bottle or a binky nor will he ever. Their mouths always drop. One of my old nanny charges said it best when someone made one of these comments. To one of the ignorant he said "na he (ds) just wants to suck t*&&*s" I had to laugh.

Nipples are amazing wonderful things, but sadly they are not a magical cure for EVERYTHING.
This is exactly what I was thinking.

Exactly. I hate it when my DD cries and first reaction is always immediately "Aww she's hungry" or "Do you have a binky for her?" Not "Is she tired?" "dirty diaper". As babies get older thier little personalities become more defined and they are more expressive. Every cry doesn't always mean "hungry" Actually when DD is hungry, she usually will pull at my shirt or try to fling herself into a nursing positon if I'm holding her on my hip before just outright crying. She gives me plenty of opportunity to figure it out.

I actually remember being about five when my little brother was born. I remember refering to his pacifier as a "plug" and every time he cried if my mama wasn't around, I would try to shove it in his mouth to make him stop. Thankfully I've changed my ways Though I wish there were something like that for certain adults.

I took my grandma to get her haircut when my youngest was about 3 months old...
well..there was a few ladies in there & they wanted to hold her..where passing her around..which i didnt mind cause shes always been very social. she enjoyed it for awhile.

well..she started fussing..so i go over to get her from a lady..she hands her over & i started walking her around.. i knew she wasent hungry because we'd just nursed before we went in..
but the lady says.. "she wants her bottle!"
i wasent going to say anything.. was just dealing with my baby..almost had her calmed down till the lady shouted "you gonna feed her a bottle??"
i said "no..she dosent have a bottle & shes not hungry."
she replies shouting "you didnt bring anything to feed the poor thing??"

my grandma shouts "of course she did..shes got her titties with her dosent she!"

At my son's preschool, we had a party for the parents at the end of the year. I was sitting with the preschool teacher (older woman in her 50s) and two moms of infants (one with a 4 month old and one with a newborn) who also had kids in our class.

One mom's 3 yr old son had a doll's baby bottle in his hand and said something about "I drink!" and ran off. The mom replied "How do you know what a bottle is for? We've never used bottles!"

The other mom and I both agreed and made comments about kids picking stuff up, but the preschool teacher looked shocked. "How is that possible? How did you feed your babies, then?"

All three of us looked right at her, blinked, and said "Breast" at the same time (it wasn't planned, it just came out!).

She was really really confused. She is a really sweet woman, but clearly from another generation where breastfeeding was just not very common.
